Why do the pictures come out square when the lens is round?? Picture Purrrfect .
I love having the choice of an avatar.
Now it is difficult to work in such sizes but I think we manage well..I sell lovely little avatars on here.
I might curse when I am creating and resizing mine but I'm glad to be allowed any avatar.

i have to agree. the average avatar is about 100x100, so it really wouldnt do much harm to allow an extra 40 or so pixels, would it?

Another thought on this subject, how about making it so the site doesn't automatically resize your avatar to 60x60 or whatever ?
Sometimes you have a great looking avatar that's not perfectly square, say 60x49 for example, & when it's squared it looks a little pixalated & loses something in the translation.

I vote for the avatars to stay exactly like the are to ensure us dail-uppers at least some sense of sanity.
20 posts = 20 avatars x 10KB = 200KB / 4KB/s = 50 seconds just to download the avatars on a short discussion thread. That excludes downloading the actual post especially those novel length replies from some people (you know who you are! :P )
Now if I have to go through that 20 times a day I'll go insane!

Crusader has perfectly stated part of the reason why I originally chose the current avatar size. The other reason is that I don't want the site to be screwed up asthetically with hundreds of oversized, clashing avatar images. Long ago I decided that I wanted a clutter-free discussion area where the discussion text is at the forefront. This will not be changing anytime soon.
