it's not hard to do.. actually just copy and paste this link into a word pad or something and change it in that.. that way you have it there and all you have to do is change the http address and the name you want to call it and then paste it onto the thread or whatever...
It means you did something wrong Verena. Carefully check how you do it and follow Jacqueline's directions exactly. I can still goof up if I don't pay close attention. Good luck!
Believe it or not... I am link challenged. Ask anybody, Keith, Jackie, Les, Larry, Cat .... they'll tell you. *sigh*
So, I tend to do the same thing Keith does, use a TEXT file. Only MY text file just so happens to be my personal page here at Caedes.... go over & scroll up to June something for a laugh.
Here, this link works, it's a link to a great tune on Youtube by Kenny Wayne Shepard.
Where you see the 3 astericks ( *** ) replace those with a lower case a .. ( a ) It should work.
THEN put this link somewhere safe, a bank vault maybe, where you can access it in the future & just change around the URL as needed ( the little addressy dealie that starts with www ) & what you want the blue part to say.
You might want the blue part, ( your actual linkie ) to say something classy like " This is my link you losers you , beware for I am a linking god !!! " .... or some such drival... but I'm sure you get the idea.
<@ href="COPY AND PASTE LINK HERE">DESCRIPTION</@>
Take that and replace the "@"s with "a"s. Replace the underlined text with what it says goes there. Make sure when you copy and paste your link url to leave the quote marks there, don't erase them.
P.S. If you want to practice a bit, just send yourself pm's. That way you'll find out if it worked and there'll be no evidence for anyone else to see how many attempts it took. 8•P
It is confusing for people because it's html which is a very basic programming language.
However it is the easiest one to learn. The descriptions here are all valid, it's just finding the one you can click with.
Sometimes it helps to understand what each individual bit means and sometimes that only confuses matters.
But if you are feeling brave you can google for basic html ;)
Ooh good good ... I like a challenge, now then ... shall we give it go?
Verena ... look at the formula for linking, as stated here:
<@ href="http://www.caedes.net">CAEDES</@>
Spacing ... is important. Don't change any of the spacing.
The reason everyone is putting @ and *'s in the formula is that if they didn't ... you would only see the blue text, or the link. The site would interpret the 'code' and show only the link.
Using the formula above as I have written it ... annnd ... making the change, the only change ... of replacing the @'s with the letter a in both spots ... would result in a link showing up ... in blue ... to the Caedes site.
The .. http://www.caedes.net part ... is the web address to any web page as found and stated in your internet browser like Internet Explorer or Firefox, whichever you use.
The .. CAEDES part ... is the part that will ultimately show as the blue text or actual link. You can name this part of the formula anything you want. One word, or a paragraph ... or a sentence, whatever.
As long as everything or parts of the linking formula are in their rightful places and spots ... remember no extra spaces and so forth ... you should be able to do links.
Give it a try with just the example I have provided linking to the Caedes page. Maybe it will sink in a bit more once you see the results.
Verena I sent you an email way WAY back when you first asked this (2nd or 3rd August), and set it out in easy steps for you.
follow Laurens instructions they are VERY easy to understand..

and Keith.. I'm waiting for a pic of you walking on hot coals.. just think you can be the first to post something like that.. then you can take a pic of you laying on a bed of nails.. ;)
Tons and tons of thanx to all of you for trying to get me to understand HOW to do this...and yes, I will for sure do it Laurens way....I'll let ya know if I succeeded...V
I've found it easier to link to other pages since downloading and installing the ScribeFire plugin for my Firefox browser. It's supposed to be for posting to blogs, but this is what I use it for: feed it a word (such as Verenabloo), and tell it I want it to link to her page (telling it the URL), and it formats it for me... see: Verenabloo. Then I copy the HTML from the Source Editor (click on the <A> tab)... I know I've not explained it very well and it sounds complicated; it's best to try it out. It speeds the process up for me, and I'm much more likely to link to pages.

Verena its not hard really all you have to do is follow Laurengary's directions all you have to do is CHANGE THE *** WITH a THEN REPLACE THE http//www. with whatever the link is, its not brain surgery and I tested it with a 7yr old
It is flat out horrible that I haven't been able to get this thru my head!
But now I copy and pasted ALL the info and I WILL figure it out...I WILL!!
Just takes time, well, and when you are on simple dialup..well, it makes everything almost a real nuisance..but thank you sooooo much everyone!!..and I will for sure "show off" once I get it down..V
there you go make sure there are no spaces copy and paste these and it will work... now THAT'S easy hmmm?
yes there is a piece in each comment.. some only have a < there I did it this way so that it is EXACTLY how it is as a link.. so make sure you copy EVERYTHING .. DO NOT LEAVE SPACES between the pasting
