Community Spirit

"Caedes is a close community of artists, designers, and photographers who share their work "

The above appears on the front page of Caedes.

There has been some concern expressed recently that the community spirit the site is well known for has diminished somewhat. Personally I have not noticed this, but I have not been here as long as many others.

Community is about sharing, and caring.

We share our artistic efforts and share our knowledge and I can think of no better place or way of doing this. Can you remember uploading your first image? I can, and I have to say I was terrified. I had wandered round the site for a few days before joining but was filled with trepidation about uploading anything. Then I thought what have I to lose - the worst that can happen is it will either be ridiculed or ignored. Almost immediately I was welcomed as a member - thank you Dwight (jacked) Slowly but surely I began to feel the sense of community - I began to commune, and to feel part of something really good. Somewhere along the line I also became addicted to photography. That was a good thing, but even better was being able to see and share the work of others, to see places and types of artwork I otherwise never would have, and better appreciate and understand ways of life different from my own. Also to find out how willing people were to help a novice.

None of that has changed so I guess the communing is still happening.

Keep communing folks - not only do we learn about other people and places, we learn a lot about ourselves, our limitations and aspirations.
Let's keep the community spirit alive and well - say hello to a stranger, view the work of someone you have not connected with before. Let's keep the community close.

And don't forget to vote :)

LOL Keifer, I am sure you are adept at weaving your way through the traffic.

Communication is the name of the game.
Art is the ultimate communication and is up there with laughter as the best medicine.
So if we all have a good laugh (especially at ourselves) view a bit of art, create a bit of art (or at least attempt to) each day, there will be less need for apples to keep the doctor away.

Your pix have been excellent medicine for me, Eve, long before I thought of posting anything on Caedes myself.

Funny thing: After more than 30 years as a writer and editor, words often fail me when I come here -- both when trying to add a description for my own pic (given up) or trying to comment on others' pix (still trying). A picture IS worth a 1,000 words, often more. And trying to "talk" about one often leaves me... uuuuuuuuuh... wow.... uuuuuuuuh, yeah. Ummm, download. Favorites. Whew, look at it more tomorrow. Uuuuuuuuuuuuh... wow...

:::sigh:::

I think ... that as an exercise in building community spirit up ... you all should chip in ... and buy me a pony.

And make it a pretty pony.

I'm gonna name her ... hmmm ... 'Cookie'. :oD

C'mon people ... not on my watch is a thread such as this going to be started and have less posts than one on ... well, you know.

I shall be back ...

*comes back, takes one ... one cookie*

Hey, I'm a growing boy ... excuse me now, I have to go and pick up Keith. It's that commuting mix-up thing ... don't worry, I'll get him here on time. :oP

p.s. Nice one Lyn. :o))

My usual silliness aside ... I do have a serious suggestion and on topic ... and that is this ...

Set aside one calendar week per month for the site, and for that week only ... members will comment on postings on those images that fall outside their 'friends' list.

I am more than aware that some already do extend this welcoming of sorts to new members and for existing ones, whos' images do not receive as many comments as some of us.

It appears that when I come across comments on the images of artists who are not as well known to the community ... the comments and tone of the words used are indeed polite, helpful ... at times, and certainly encouraging.

Additionally, it might help alleviate some of the pressure that 'we' put on ourselves in keeping up with our friends' works ... once it became site known, that we are all working to extend our time and courtesies to others in that designated week.

Annnnd ... prompt us ... expose us, to possibly new ideas and approaches to our collective artistic efforts and works.

Just some thoughts.
