When I leave windows this means that I am either 1. helping a friend on a mac (yuck)
2. programming in unix or linux
3. in a unix or linux lab at school
2 and 3 mean I'm working, which means I only enjoy using a pc when I am using windows, as unstable as it may be :)
I hate iTunes as an mp3 player because it doesn't allow me to organize my music the way I'm used to. I use a hierachical system where the music goes from very broad (classical) to very specific (Mahler's 7th Symp.). I'm used to being able to just throw a diriectory inrto Winamp and have it play everything in all the sub-directories, but iTunes always wants to make it into a permanent playlist. With the number of possible playlists in my old system I'd have to have 100s of iTunes play lists.
haha, good point, it also lacks as a file sharing application because users cannot save the files, only play them off of the host pc/mac (unless you are slick), leaving dial up users out of the loop. Though dialing in is a dying trend, Computer Science 101 tells you to keep as many users in mind as possible when creating your software :)
1) winamp
2) WMP
3) mplayer
I like winamp because it's clean, compact, supports many file types, and is efficient in its use of resources, especially RAM unlike most others...
I hate any application that tries to dictate how you should do anything. The number of times I have shouted "But I want to do it -this- way!" at my screen must number in the thousands...
you can share music from iTunes and/or stream it over a wireless network - in my experience it also a lot faster at importing and burning tunes and if you have the diskspace (or a big enough iPod) has excellent high quality/lossless options. but i agree with you about its file organising foibles.
speedy winamp can play most mainstream and lossless formats, also plays most video formats as well. 2 thumbs up for winamp 5 (combination of 2 (we all love) and 3 (some hate)). Itunes is ok if you want to listen to your friends music without being able to keep it, other than that it has no advantages over winamp.
itunes, because it suits me, never crashes, and synchronises with ipod, when ever i connect it.
i hate WMP, and musicmatch jukebox, and winamp is to much of a hassel to use, although, it has been a while.
also, it is very convenient to listen to all the midi music that i create in itunes, because the voices are generally correct when playing, unlike WMP and it doesnt take ages to load, like Cubase SX
i'm pretty partial to my itunes, granted it doesn't play ALL formats, but it plays the ones i use such as aac and mp3.. besides, quicktime supports most movie files.. and if neither of those play it.. that dastardly bill gates installed media player on my machine as well
