Date Stamp Removal

I'm fairly new to photography, and I made the mistake of taking several hundred pictures with bright yellow date/time stamps on them! I would love to submit about twelve of these that I'm proud of, but the date stamps really ruin any effect I was going for. Does anyone know of a method/program I can use to dull or altogether delete the date stamps?? I would very much appreciate any suggestions!

Most image editing programs will do that quite well. Photoshop -- inc. Photoshop Elements (which Amazon has for about $70) -- will make quick work of it.

So will the open source (freeeee) GIMPshop. And GIMPshop's interface mimic's Photoshop's, so you can use all the free tutorials on the web for Photoshop with it. Details:

1) .. the best method is to 'skillfully' use the clone tool in photoshop .. the GIMP is free, and has a lot of the same features .. although it will take a while to master

2) .. if your image is large enough, you could just crop the image, leaving the date out of the selection ... the posting sizes have been 'loosened' of late .. so .. it doesn't really matter what the resulting size is ... and it will allow you to enter the fray with your head held high

3) .. a lot of members here started by posting images with date stamps .. and they got 'schooled' by the people ('vox populi') .. YOU could join those ranks and learn by the comments you receive .. possibly somebody will come along and offer to 'rework' the image for you (been known to happen)

4) .. then, years from now, you can tell the story, between chuckles, of how when you started posting images, they had date stamps ... the story has already been told a couple times

I'm not sure i completely agree with keifer. If the date stamp is on a fairly constant spot (not to much going on like an edge of something) the healing brush will work better than the clone tool. It uses an area around where you paint to fill in by blending and such. Often times all you will have to do is paint over top of it and it will go away. I know for sure this is a feature of photoshop. I would imagine the gimp has it aswell as a some of the other editing programs.

ah, there you go .. I have not used the healing brush enough to be familiar with it. My assumption, though, is that somebody asking this question will not have photoshop

the best course of action is to POST the image(s) .. and move forward .. not to let it hold you back

Post, listen, learn .. Post listen learn (rinse, repeat)

Best wide-angle lens? Two steps backward. Look for the 'ah-ha'. Ernst Haas,
