I recently posted some pictures of the Golden Gate Bridge and one of them received a really low c-index. However, even people who've commented said it should be higher. The only thing I can think of is that the wires seem a little crooked. If anyone can help me with this it would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

This falls into the age old debate of the "applicableness" (it's a word trust me ;) ) of the c-index. Really it's based on voting in the voting booth (as you well know I'm sure). Many users just zip through the images they are voting on and vote quickly without considering the image's qualities aside from the initial grab.

you really only have to analyze the mindset of the average voter with regards to this particular image ... remember, they do not have the description when voting

Even a large scale, full color, beautissimo, landscape will garner a score of 70 (on average) .. this particular image is a minamalistic abstract in comparison ... most voters (probably) only saw it as dark lines on light background and scored it accordingly .. possibly they feel a desktop should be a grand affair and this image bored them in that regard

those that looked at it long enough to determine that it was, in fact, an image of bridge architecture (probably) were not moved by that fact enough to score it higher than those in the first category

I commend you for 'seeing' it .. and for posting it ... your 'voter interpretation skills' need work

hmmm. I really,really like the concept here, and like Keith (keifer), I commend you for seeing beyond the obvious. As for the image itself, I'd like to see this as a wider shot, or a sharper shot, or...not sure.

it's missing something..kinda like soup that needed one or two more dashes of salt.
