Kenny Rockwell loses it…

Or perhaps gets it back. Just dropped by his site to see if he had any more confident predictions on the Canon 7D (apparently not) but he does seem to have become somewhat disenchanted with long standing heroes Nikon.

Sound bites like ‘Canon 40D: for the money it’s a no brainer – take one over a Nikon D200 any day’ or equally scathing swipes at the new Nikon models like the D200 replacement which is apparently ‘not worth the upgrade and barely changed from the previous model’

All rounded off with the promise of an upcoming in-depth article on ‘Why I love my Canon 5D sooooo much’

Off the meds? Taking too many? Nervous exhaustion from baby related sleepless nights? Who can say. Funny if for no other reason picturing the Nikon PR department having a full on bitch fit at this betrayal :-)

I don’t think he’s lost it at all. He just realised the error of his ways, that’s all :-)

There are three colours, Ten digits and seven notes, its what we do with them that’s important. Ruth Ross

I'm not sure why he would compare the 40d to the d200. Is nikon's equivalent of the 40d not the d80? And if not, shouldn't you compare cameras from the same generation? The 40d is just on its way in, while the d200 is on its way out with the announcement of the d300, which i would say is quite a bit more attractive than the d200. Although i don't have a d200 so i can't say if i would want to upgrade if i did.

No one wanted to pay to say something in my sig, so i will have to try and think of something creative now...

Well he had very few nice things to say about the D300 either - pretty much saying it was hardly worth the effort in the same way that Canon folks felt when the 30D replaced the 20D. I think the crux of the comparison was that the 40D in real terms was more than a match for the bigger Nikon image quality wise but much cheaper and Nikon seemed to have focused for the most part on pretty much useless features such as partial HDMI output instead of really raising the bar with more practical features.
