put 4 new pic on caedes, within a week they were all archived. never seen them sent to the old basement cornner so quick? Is this some thing new or am i that bad lol bassman4447
i have had the same situation... i dont think i've ever had a shot not archived relatively immediately. a musical piece was in my archive within a week or less. i won't be offended if told my work just isn't good enough but i am curious as to why i've nothing to show on the site besides my personal gallery. i also posted a llama shot three days ago that is already archived
Generally we try to leave all images in the "new" gallery for at least two weeks. After that they are slowly whittled down, ie the outstanding photos are moved to the perms pretty much straight away and the ho-hum ones are archived. Then over a few weeks the ones that are left might be permed or archived. Any that are left over at the end (ie the best of the rest) will be archived automatically by the system. I think that takes about two months but it might be longer. Most images would have been manually moved by this time though.
generally speaking, as this is not aimed at YOU ... and we have all had images processed counter to our desires
one needs to decide if one is going to learn from what they see and not just from what they are told ... look at the images that do well .. from a desktop\wallpaper point of view (and MOST decisions will be based on that criteria, IMHO) ... images are judged by composition, exposure, uniqueness, color fidelity, etc ..
execution of all of these aspects escapes a lot of photographers\artists because they don't think about it at the time of shutter-button depress ... and they aren't pushing themselves to get better with each submission to the site .. as they don't see any problem with their own offerings .... AND .. even images needing help are showered with praise
Wallpaper\desktop imagery is different for all people .. it is one of those categories that is difficult\impossible to pigeon-hole for all to aim for ... but aiming for it has helped a lot of the photographers here be better picture-takers
just think of the BEST image you've ever seen .. it should be generic in message, so that it is open to all viewers .. it should\could convey a peaceful, cool, techno, natural, abstract, vibe ... perhaps an escapist dream, like a Caribbean beach .. or an inviting Forest path ... or a complete mish-mash of color swirls and texture
it IS different for everybody .. but that doesn't mean that the site will promote or encourage everything on the hopes that somebody will like it ... this is a necessity of sanity
thanks guys.. i'm really wanting to get better and agree that many photos (particularly my own) are praised as opposed to critiqued. i wish i could get more constructive feedback on my work. thanks again for the responses!
a lot of people have been "grabbed by the lapels and yanked from a restful sleep" after giving honest advice .. (*raises hand*) ... and have a tendency to shy away from being critical
but ..
posting a "request for comment" will often, but not always, deliver crits to your doorstep .. only $5 a pound
because, well, you must mean it when you ask in there
Big important point: What follows is not a complaint. At all. Just a noob question.
This surprised me: "the outstanding photos are moved to the perms pretty much straight away and the ho-hum ones are archived..." I go here quite often and view by date to see the new perms cuz I'd hate to have a really good pic sneak under my radar. Seems like very few get added and lots of days go by between additions. That's totally cool with me, but... is my method flawed? Am I missing lots of new perms?
Thanks!
P.S. Foozles. I'm completely confuizmated. I went HERE to check out whether I "get" the system and found an Egyptian cat uploaded 1/4/06 under "New images," so help! I'z all idiotical again!
If your browsing for pics, I would suggest strolling through the new image gallery (by date) that way you won't miss any that might not make the perm gallery..
to ME .. the site IS the new images gallery (by date, *wink*) ..
THAT is the ebb and flow .. the new blood .. the new-kid on the block .. the two-for-one-sale .. the johnny-come-lately .. the blockbuster movie .. the backstage pass .. the finger-on-the-pulse .. the blind date .. the hot date .. and the "you must vacate by this date" ... of the site
AND ... the only place you are likely to find the Oregonian short-haired Liquify Abstraction ... (skittish around people)
For me, the goal of the site is dubble:
1) A new images gallery which propose daily dozens of new pictures (very good, good and 'ho hum' ones)
2) Permanent galleries where you can find outstanding or very interesting works
Leslie: you're right about old pics like 'Egyptian kat3'. But if you're visiting the new images->Photography gallery, the oldest is from august 2007. It seems that the Mods are a little late on the non-photography new galleries... ;-)
