15 Caedes members from the UK, US and Belgium met up in April 2008 in Bradford, West Yorkshire, UK. This thread charts the progress of the event right from the initial idea. It continues as a forum for those who were involved or interested.... watch this space for more!

Well, guys and gals - it sounds like you had a wonderful time! I was very sorry not to have been able to make it, but I shall console myself with offering a few shots in connection with the conference I attended instead. I kind of suspect there's likely to be a Caedes UK follow-up in the not too distant future, and I'll hope to come to that. Meanwhile, congrats to Nigel and Jan on their excellent winning contest shots!
Cheers,
Kevin
PS I thought GPS stood for Generally Photographed Sloshed. Have I got that wrong?
I much appreciate all the comments I receive about my images, but please excuse me if I don't always reply. My interest in Caedes is exceeding my time available!
Hi all! I made it back home, (mostly unscathed, ha ha!) :) I just wanted to thank all of you for the most wonderful weekend! It was such a pleasure to meet all of you and I'm so fortunate to have made such great new friends! Hopefully we can do this again next year! New Orleans has been mentioned among a few of us if anyone's interested. A bit too soon to start thouroughly organizing that one yet, just wanted to throw that out there for everyone to think about. I'm enjoying all of your Bradford posts even though I've been unable to comment on all of them. Much to do getting settled in again :) I'll try to get something posted for you all here soon.
'Lisa
I have created a new gallery called "New Images->UK Get Together". Any new photos from the trip can be uploaded there. If anyone has any photos they have already uploaded which I've missed let me know and I'll move them. Note that it might take a little while for the new gallery to appear in the galleries list.
That's great Sam, thanks for setting it up. I know there's still lots more people shots out there waiting to get posted. In fact I'm wondering if we shouldn't have separate 'Bob' and 'Momma' galleries to accommodate all the pictures of them that are coming ;-)
Glad to hear you managed to have a good weekend despite the conference Kevin. In the words of the song, 'Maybe next time'.
Now, where did I put that folder with all the Momma pics my loyal friends have been sending in to me.....
Nigel, I was rather gentle and kind on my first post of you. Rest assured, that will change!
I am putting out an all points bulletin for anyone to contact me who is willing to "rework" some additional pics of Nigel. I'm not skilled at the type of "rework" that is needed.
Momma
PS I envisaged the new gallery more for people type shots; I think wallpaper type images that might happen to have been taken during the get together should remain in the "normal" galleries? Any opinions?
Hmmm... I would personally like to see the wallpaper worthy images from the get together in the UK Get Together gallery because it's fun to compare the different takes from the same places. Everyone would still have access to download them as wallpaper if they want, so I think it would still be okay.
Awww Tim, I'm so sorry! I hope you recover them alright. That's a lot of work!
I'm with you Sam, I think it's just the people ones that should go into the dedicated gallery as they're outside the bounds of what would normally be uploaded. Anything that falls within the normal definitions for Caedes uploads should just go into the relevant gallery. Although maybe we should start one for 'viaducts' as there are so many shots of that ;-)
As for sending shots of me to Momma - or collaborating with her on photo trickery - just remember which side your bread is buttered. Share your Momma shots with me and you'll get a room with a view at the next UK Get-together. Share your shots of me with Momma and you'll be sleeping in the outhouse with her and the dog.
And Pierre, yes it was cold up North. Very cold. Next time I'll make sure I order better weather ;-)
Aww, I would post one of you Richie but the few that I took at the dinner were all blurred and all I got was the back of your head anyway. Some photographer I am! Wish you could have been on the bus excursion with us. I'll shed a tear for you.
Hark at Lisa...saying all her shots were blurred at the dinner!.....Bloody good right after the 5 bottles of wine she supped?.....Whooo-Heeee...she was in a right owd party mood!!!...he he!
I got a shot of Richie, but he was crackin jokes, and my hands were wobbly with laffin! .. .. And...and...and I didn't see no camera from you mate!....unless it was that 99p throw away 35mm one?...
I have a side view of Richie but nothing more - I think we were having too much fun to think about taking photos! lol! ...I have no idea who was in charge - must have been Bob and he snook out the back door before the fun began! haha! I think we will just have to do an action replay and take some more group photos - anyone free next weekend? lol!

Aww! What happened to the UK Get Together Gallery??? I went to check it this morning and all the pictures of us were gone. I've told friends to look on Caedes to see our pictures. Now they won't be able to find them :(
You can access the Caedes UK gallery as a separate space within the 'Your Community' pages Lisa. Just click on the + sign next to it to see all the galleries there. This is a great idea - thanks to Sam especially for giving us our own space.

He's already up and outa here! That's why there are always so few people in his shots, he gets up earlier than everybody else :) Who's making breakfast?
How many are still interested in a US Get Together in New Orleans for next year? I know they have some kind of Photo Alliance thing that happens there but I'm not sure when. They also have boat charters through the swamps to see alligators and other wildlife I think would be fun, or even a steamboat ride along the coast :) Plenty of pubs too!
I'm going to cry. When this first came up I was really up for coming along as I live so close by in York. Since then we got busy on a big house extension and it slipped from my mind until recently when I saw that I'd missed it.
Sorry Lisa, I missed your message ?!? Life's been too hectic lately. I love the idea of a get-together in New Orleans but would need to make my plans carefully. I'm about to sign up for a 9 day, 100km trek across Iceland in support of the McMillan cancer charity next August so I'm not sure what the energy / cash situation will be like. Still, if it was all steamboats I guess it wouldn't matter how many blisters I had!
Hey, gee! I hear you're comin' to my asylum Pat. It'll be great to see you. I'll invite all the Caedes folks round, particularly that nice Mr Digi. You still eatin' alligator fries? I could get some laid in special.
I much appreciate all the comments I receive about my images, but please excuse me if I don't always reply. My interest in Caedes is exceeding my time available!
sorry if i don't comment on each of your pictures. to those of you who comment so often, i can't imagine how you get it done! i for one am always extremely grateful for the kind comments and suggestions that you make.
Please Visit My Gallery
Look-a-here, I'll not stand for all these insults. Alligator fries? Bring Digi along? Are you crazy? Arizona in July-August?
I gotta dump this mentally retarded bunch. (Heads for padded room)
(Gads...somebody will have a get together over here that those two blokes will wanna attend and I'll wind up with both of'em
in my backyard..............................faint)
I much appreciate all the comments I receive about my images, but please excuse me if I don't always reply. My interest in Caedes is exceeding my time available!
Now then. There has been some demand for an Autumn UK get-together. There's not much time, and I'm too busy, to do a lot of organising. So to keep it simple, Patti Fogz and I will be at THIS hotel in Derbyshire from the evening of Friday 10th October until lunchtime on Sunday 12th October. We've chosen Derbyshire as a central location that has a chance of being equally accessible by most - the UK might be a small country, but there's still nowhere within easy reach of members located as far north as Scotland and as far south as Plymouth and Cornwall!
If anyone would like to come, please book with the hotel via the website and let me know. Rooms are £35 single and £50 double per night, excluding breakfast.
If you're not able to do this one, we're also planning another Spring get-together. That one will be in Dorset, where there are endless opportunities for photography on what has become known as the Jurassic Coast. . Highlights of the area include: Durdle Door, Kimmeridge Bay, Mupe Bay, Lulworth Cove, Highcliffe Castle and there's lots more besides!
I'm booked!!! :) Can't wait to show you some of the stunning countryside around Derbyshire and Staffordshire. I already have some ideas in mind in different categories: easy no effort drive up and admire the views, moderately easy rambles over some of the highest hills in the UK, 'kills you walking up here' kind of hills, plus there is Chatsworth, Lyme Hall and Haddon Hall all within easy reach or if you prefer to go down under there are the Blue John Mines and Pooles Cavern .......and of course, last but not least I know many great pubs along the way LOL! Would be great if some other members could join us.
ps The Cressbrook website gives you lots more information about the Peak District and the area.
..thanking you in advance for your comments. Please know that all your comments are appreciated....." Live well, love much, laugh often!" .... mygallery
Jurassic Coast? Oh boy, that got my interest. But I cannot go thru all that expense to come over there for just two days and I won't have the advantage of a gracious host to cart me around. I'll need to stay at least a week to get my airfares worth but won't have any transportation. Anybody got any ideas how I solve this problem?
Pat
We'll make it three nights for the Spring one rather than two Pat. A lot of people last time said they would have liked to have more time. Transport while we're down there won't be a problem as there will be cars and, if there's enough of us, a bus again - one that won't break down this time! And it may be that some people will choose to stay on afterwards as it's quite a trip even within the UK and is a very beautiful part of the country. It would be fantastic to see you again!
I may come down for the week and if it's in May that's the month i retire and if it's the 18th that's my birthday,However i must warn you prezzies with a market value of a least £30 are acceptable it's all to do with inflation you know..Biff.
I made him a perfectly good owl avie too...one that just blinked, and he's back to that ant :grrr:( I swear I'm going to charge him for my messed up screen...lol...the fingerprints alone!!!
We don’t make art to show someone what something looks like. All this requires is eyes (or a lens). Art is supposed to have meaning, emotion, power, or magic. Alan & Mario "FourThirds"
seriously Jac - you may have been wonderin why it didn't die, but my hand was on the way to the screen to kill it when my brain processed that it didn't walk out of that little box.
Please, even if you don't visit my gallery, check out my "Faves".I've left them intact since day "1", and would like it if every image there got the attention they deserved.
You mean Biffobear FINALLY got rid of that blasted ant or flea or whatever it was? Does he know how many computer screens I have had to buy over the past several months? Computer screens and shotgun blasts don't seem to go together. (throws down the shotgun and storms off to BestBuy-again!)
Ok, Call me in for the trip to Dorset! I've been there before and it is really beautiful. Unfortunatly I can't make it to derbyshire. Maybe it is also easier to start a new thread for these get togethers? Maybe we can also organise a European get-together like for instance in Belgium? I would like to co-organise that one!
Nick
....next weekend draws near and if anyone else wants to join Bob, Nigel, Jan and me for our visit to Derbyshire, then they are more than welcome. This is the suggested itinerary I have sent everyone. Just need to find a few more pubs hmmmmm lol!
The hotel Nigel and I are booked in (Friday and Saturday) is in Thorpe which is 3.5 miles from Ashbourne. It's a beautiful place in its own right with Dovedale in the background.
Saturday:
1st stop Tissington .......a village not too far from where we are based - it is village stuck in a time warp like being in the last century - has a great tearoom - very photographic place. I have a few pictures from there here and here
2nd stop Monsal Head - looks like we have climbed a big hill, but we can actually drive right up to the point where I took this photo and there is a pub, a small restaurant and a cafe right behind me so we could stop here and have some late lunch. It is easy walking down to the viaduct but kills you climbing back, so I would suggest we drive down the hill at the right and maybe walk along the river a bit there as you can take pictures of a waterfall and the viaduct from down below.
3rd stop Curbar Edge here and here - again we can drive right up to a car park and take a fairly easy walk which will take us along curbar edge with amazing views. Baslow Edge is on the other side of the road and if you wanted to walk any further we could do that side too.
If you have had enough by then, we could go to the Anchor Pub not too far away for some dinner - they do great old english meals like sausage and mash, steak and ale pie! lol!
Sunday morning:
I would like to take you up Mam Tor - it has steps and a path up and I usually stop a couple of times - you see all ages walking up there so I think we could do it. Nigel will give you a piggy back Jan! hehe! It is worth it for the view but if it is windy and wet then it is a no no and we can do something else. We can drive through Winnat's Path en route and call at Castleton if we have time.
We can be flexible and there are lots of places we can go if the weather is not too good, like Haddon Hall (where you can take photos inside) or even go underground to the Blue John Mines.
ps - don't forget your waterproofs and walking boots and Bob don't forget your fat wallet! haha!
..thanking you in advance for your comments. Please know that all your comments are appreciated....." Live well, love much, laugh often!" .... mygallery
If we are going into the Blue John mines...then I need my water-'wings' too!!!!...I been there and know what it's like!....Mind you..that was 82 years ago, so things coulda changed since then!!!
Anyhoo...my wallet is not as fat as your credit card!!!
Oi, the moths in my wallet have been breeding peacefully for many a long year and I'm not going to start disturbing them now. Patti and I have a little 'cloning' business ready for the first appearance of your gold Amex Card. That'll do nicely Bob.
Hi Bonnie. Watch this space - Mark and I are putting the spring one together and will be starting a new thread within the next month. I think Dorset will be fun.
