C-Indexes...?

Hey...I know that the C-Index does some crazy things but why the sudden drop for all of the images? The top image is at 96...have the numbers been adjusted?

This is wierd. Just this morning fourteen of my photos were rated with a c-index over 90, and most of them had been that way for over two weeks. Suddenly this afternoon they *ALL* dropped into the eighties except for one which has been rated around 99 for over four weeks. Whats up?

Caedes has obviously changed how the c-index is calculated. I imagine this is a response to the discussions on the topic of the indexes recently. As groo2k said, the highest ranking on the entire site now is 96. Insteresting...

I think it's a cool idea to reduce the c-indexes to a level where the 99s are not all lumped together with no distinction between them, but I am curious about the shuffling in the order of my images. Some of the 99s fell below other images that were not 99s before. Just a totally different algorithm or something?

My guess is he has applied more wieght to one of the factors than before; so the c-index will be higher or lower based on that factor.

Interesting to note that the author list doesn't seem to have changed at all...

I thought mine had suddenly dropped but no new votes had been recorded on a few, so I was puzzled too....Caedes????

I agree with Caedes, he has changed the c-index evaluation to a more normal standards, when I compared some of my photos in quality i found myself that some weren't worthy getting 99%. I am amateur, and I think my c-indexe have more normal proportions. For me it stays still a hobbyThanks to Caedes we have this beautiful site.!!!!

I can understand this sudden drop, but I personally think that once your c-index is at a high mark it should stay that way, and maybe Caedes should make the rankings higher then 99. Dropping the c-index makes the artist feel that it's not good enough where it was......(bottom line)... if Caedes can drop our ratings, why can't they higher the c-index!

On the other hand, it does make those images that are still ranked highly feel more "special" now that there are fewer of them...

iiiinteresting... 90% of me loves it this way. it's much preferable, and realistic, to not have hundreds of images with 99. I'm curious to know what the new formula is. It seems to me though that ideally the formula would allow for SOME 99s, whereas now the top image is 96.

ahhh yes--- look at the c-index distribution now! It's much more of a bell curve as it should be. It used to be waaay frontloaded. the mode is now 75, it used to be 95 i believe.

Well whatever the reason is, I'm all for it and if everyone got a 99 c-index on every picture than that wouldn't be much fun at all. I just appreciate showing my images and being commented on them and meeting friends on Caedes. A c-index is just a number, Caedes means more than that!....thank you!

Hi all, I agree. I think that Caedes is fantastic, and that we should all encourage one another. I believe that we should all just focus on learning from one another and support eachother as much as we can. C-indexes are a reflection of views and downloads as I see it, and we need to be sure we are voting on the ones we feel deserve the grades. I would like to see higher c-indexes on some of mine too, but I too am only an amateur. I really do appreciate the constructive criticism I receive from the one's who know more than I do! Great job to everyone and keep up the great shots!

The new system is nice, only one thing i dont like. Newer images have a very strong bias over older images. Look at the top images, they are all brand new, and look in your gallery, newer images tend to have much higher c-indexes. This makes sense because it puts newer images in the front of the rankings like b4, but with the new system it makes it seem as tho your old images really suck (low c-indexes). Some of the newer images not as good as the older ones have much higher c-indexes. Before both old and new had 99s but the newer ones were just ranked higher. Maybe with the new system the age part of the algorithm could be toned down just a bit?

This is great! In the past, with all of the 99s floating around, I would always think 'what's wrong with my image' if it got a 98...just kidding. Now, though, it'll be fun to chase an elusive 99...the quest begins. : )
