To buy or not to buy??

Hi! I want to upgrade from my digital Olympus mju 600 to a new camera but I really have not got a clue which one to buy. I'm looking for a decent camera with 8 or more pixels and one where I can switch lenses and filters to create effects, such as clear, crisp landscapes and flowing water looking like mist etc. Would anyone recommend a good camera for under 600euro? I was looking at Canon or Nikon but I heard that panasonic were a reliable model too...any help and suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks! =D

No specific recommendations from me, but these sites should be your first stop:

Steve's Digicams
DPReview

They've got reviews, comparisons, sample pics and user opinions so you'll get a pretty good idea about each camera.

for 600 Euros you are looking really at either a Canon 400D, Nikon D40X, Olympus E-410, Pentax K10D, Samsung GX10 or the Sony Alpha A100 but for image quality reasons i'd confine your research to the first four on that list. Crusaders linked sites should give you reviews on all those models.

Hubby has the Pentax K and loves it. High quality, IS, good color, reasonable :=)
Personal opinion only of course!

Personally i would go with the canon or nikon, as i feel their quality is slightly better, and also their is more selection of lenses. The bigger selection may not see important now, but in the future when you want to get some new stuff it is nice to already have some stuff that works with the new stuff. If that makes any sense.

No one wanted to pay to say something in my sig, so i will have to try and think of something creative now...

ah, stuff it :P

actually, what Milo is saying is true, if only a little fuzzy. Lenses that are made for Canon and Nikon are the most common, and therefore, sold the most, and the easiest to find. That includes "3rd party" lenses, such as those made by Sigma, Tokina, and Tamron. I used to shoot with an Olympus. It's not the easiest camera to find lenses for.

In any case, good luck.

yes the 4/3rds system is a dedicated choice but Sigma do offer their lenses with both the 4/3rds and Pentax bayonet mounts albeit not the entire range.

If I had such a tight budget I'd probably go for a Canon 400D. If you could up your budget I'd strongly recommend a Nikon D80, works very well indeed. For great reviews check out Cameralabs.com.

I would recommend going to a shop and try these camera's first, you will immediatly feel which one lays good in your hand, because that's important too!
