I think (and I hate to admit this) but a limit on how much stuff a single user can upload in a given time period sounds like something to try.I dont know about you guys but at times I will ok 5 to 8 pics from the same guy, now Im all for people wanting other people to see the stuff they have but geez does a guy need to upload so many at a time? I have been coming here a long time and I dont know what has happened but there are so many images being uploaded that there is no possible way for people to see them and there winds up been a whole bunch of pics getting deleted before anyone even gets a chance to see them. So what is the point of even uploading anything when there is a good chance nobdy will even see it anyway because it gets lost in the shuffle and deleted a month later?

I think I would support having a limit on uploading new images, because you're right, no one gets to see the ones that deserve viewing because there are always too many new pics to look at. I don't think one person needs to upload that many at one time; that's why I upload like maybe 2-3 weekly. I have to agree that new images in small doses is what it's all about :) I know I haven't been here that long but I thought it would be good to second your motion.

"But it is our expression that there are no positive differences: that all things are like a mouse and a bug in the heart of a cheese. Mouse and a bug: no two things could seem more unlike. They're there a week, or they stay there a month: both are then only transmutations of cheese. I think we're all bugs and mice, and are only different expressions of an all-inclusive cheese."~Book of the Damned

So what time scale do you suggest for uploaded images?

What about allowing those who contribute a modest fee to the site to upload 3 new photos a week. Those on scholarship may contribute one.

Maybe you could restrict the uploads to a few a week or maybe just 1 pic a day.

Though I agree that there are alot of images being uploaded at one time I can not say that I totally agree with a fee. I have noticed that there are many young artists here that contribute and I myself, being a mother of 4 and the husband in college, I am the supporter of my household. I can honestly say that I could not afford a fee for uploading. And, please, trust in the fact that I hate to say that...for, I would LOVE to contribute financially to the site. I couldn't live with out caedes.net. ha! (and, if it came down to it, I would have to search for the loose change.) I could agree with 2-3 a week. Or, possibly trading uploads. I wouldn't mind in taking some of my not-so-good pieces to try out newer pieces. Maybe we should all take some responsibility in cleaning out our wallpaper closets.

well...heres a thought (it may have been said already but i dont feel like reading) (btw im in the same boat as u tracy...well sort of anyway...)
ok..how about if all u imagemods be stricter on what and what not too allow onto the site...i mean if it not very good, dont put it up...as of right now, u could make a really stupid looking pitcure and still ussually get it posted. I believe that if u only put stuff on that u can tell people cared about and spent some time on when making, it would cut down on a lot of this.

I agree with tb because true, some people don't even try and we get a lot of stuff on here that no one likes, and no one sees the pics that people truly spent time and effort doing.

As far as removing images that are in the new gallery that is what the c-index is supposed to do weed out the images that people don't like ,that's not what im talking about. The thing that is beginning to worry me is there are get to be so many pics uploaded that the required amount of votes wont be meet and popular images will be removed not from lack of interest but lack of time to look through the vast expanse known as the new images gallery:)

I agree with tbob! and wy not do like this.
As a regular member (free membership) you are free to upload let's say one picture each 72 hour.
And if you want to upload more you can upgade to caedes silver member and than for a small fee (20 $ each year) upload one pictures each 48 hour.
And the next step is to upgrade to gold member and pay (40 $ each year) for that you can upload one pictures each 24 hour.
And maybe a nice little symbol for these three levels.

... And Bill Gates can upload one picture each minute...
I'm sorry Sam, but I don't agree. I think that we must privilege the quality rather than quantity.
As only allowing an upload all 1, 2 or 3 days, members is going to think and will propose some best pictures...

not a bad idea samarn. That's a lot of loose change that I would have to search for ($40). But, it's a good idea.

Why not just set a general fee of $10 per year across the board for all those wishing to post, download and critique photos. The perk would be all three actions. Since I cannot readily define "quality", I propose a maximum of three posted photos a week per member. The C-Index will decide the rest.

Those on scholarship would still be able to download, but not post or critique.

I like this site, and I am happy to donate to it now that I am involved. But while I like my work, and want others to see it, I never would have started if I had to pay just to put up my photos.

If we did something like that then we'd have to let them upload the first couple without needing a membership. If you want more than 5 images on the site then you have to get a membership.

Nothing is wrong with what you and PPigeon said. But you answered your own question -- the mere fact that you're able to post your comment at all is because money gives you that opportunity.

There's no such thing as a free lunch.

i agree. though, I am without as much money as most - I would be more than willing to contribute if it meant not loosing the magic of the site so to speak (I swear - I'd be digging for change like a mad-man). However, I'm not so sure about charging to upload. You might loose a lot of good artist out there who just can not do it. And, it would be sad to have them wait on a time frame to upload something great just because they don't have the money. I think that maybe a limit on how many allowed to upload at a given time would make it more agreeable.
Regardless - you can't make everyone happy...

Agree tbhockey. I accept the idea to pay to help Caedes (see Caedes Cadre), but not to upload some pictures. To upload = to give and to download = to take (then members who are only downloading have to pay... He! He!)
Hey Caedes, the site is very fast now. Am I wrong?

The hard, cold reality of this situation is that it boils down to money. Nice thoughts, good vibrations and touch-feely notwithstanding, we who participate in this site must contribute to Caedes so that he can maintain the site we all so enjoy.

I've reprogrammed the upload script to allow 2 uploads per 24 hours for reqular members and 4 upload for CC members. How does this sound?

2 uploads per 24 hours for regular members and 4 uploads for CC members sounds alright, I think paying to be able to upload/download images is a bad idea.I am sure most of the members first participated in this site because there was no membership fee and an open forum for constructive feedback. Besides artists are not known for being the wealthiest of people.

The numbers sound good to me as well. 2 a day is still enough to keep people interested in uploading...but few enough to be able to see/manage everything as well.
