I came up with, what I think, could be a pretty good idea (if immbellished enough). For a new type of contest, maybe we could pick teams or somthing. A few captians (perhaps mods) choose a few people to be on their team. Maybe we see which team gets the best pictures, or maybe the team can put their skills together to make one really cool picture. I think this could be cool. What do you think?
I think its a great idea. The teams getting together to make one picture. Maybe a small group of 3 or so to make a few images. It would inspire comradery within the site and bring out some wonderful projects. Maybe a team composed of a good photographer with a good manipulator/enhancer and a good digital artist. Hmmmmmm. Good thinking Tony.
thanks guys. Liquidguitar: yeah i know. So i'm thinking that the "captians" just select a few people of their choice. But everyone would not get in on it (sorta like playing baseball at recess back in 5th grade).
And what happens to the rest of us??? *sniff* A very good idea, and comradery it would bring, but only to those involved. I have a feeling the rest of those who would be hoping to be chosen would feel rejected, and have their pride knocked down a few levels.

I really like the idea of having volunteers. Then no one gets left out. If you want in, then your, no one gets looked over....if you dont want to participate you can just sit back and enjoy the pics.
Well, Tony, if you didn't get picked, I am pretty sure nobody would, or at least very few teams would be competing. Volunteers are a good idea, but what happens if someone with no skills offers assistance? (like me!) I would want someone to honestly tell me I'm not qualified...
Well i for one would certainly be interested in volunteering for a team contest... or I'd be happy enough with Captains selecting teams too...probably the fairer choice would be volunteering.. you could specifiy what sort of post you would prefer..captain, photographer, manipulator etc.. any or all of them!! :D
yes. Or maybe in our profiles we could have a choice to selesct our specialty (photographer, manip. etc...) Or there could be a rating system to display how good you are in certian areas...but then again, we know how rating sytems tend to work...cough cough c-index, cough. So if a captian was picking teams they look and see.."hm... i need one more manipulator, lets looks at who is avaliable..ok i want this guy"
I like the idea. My first thought was picking teams for dodgeball however, bad experiences. But I think if it is from a particular pool and the positions are labled then why not try it. There could be different catagorys that the teams could work on I guess to get even more people involved. Someone create a fractal and then other people go in and add their own personal touches and so on. Another category being photography. Just depending on the original image. Just a thought.
A pool of volunteers could be made, and split evenly into teams based on their skills. There could be a few teams that are not exactly even. And everyone has skills, I dont think there is anyone on this site that could not offer assistance to a project. It is a good idea and should be looked into further I think. People on this site sometimes work on things together anyways, and get help from eachother and the results tend to be quite nice.
Sounds good to me. Perhaps there could be different levels? Like people say on the first 3 pages of author list could form teams, then the next 3 pages, etc, kinda like different leagues. Then everyone could take part, but the best artists wouldn't be "stuck" with those who aren't as good e.g me.
Well leagues could be interesting... but we have to be careful not to segregate people. I for one would be happy to work with anyone.. I would be throwing in my lot as a 'Manipulator' and as such i would like to work with anyones images, regardless of what skill level they place themselves in!
The mods and I have decided the format of the team-based contest. All we need now is a good topic. I'll be announcing the format and topic as soon as we have both. =)
This is a great idea...Now this contest can only be done in a Community. And i really like to call Caedes.net an ARTISTIC COMMUNITY.
Lets see how ıt would be...
I suggest FREEDOM.
Because freedom is a general topic, there are many viewpoints in the topic(Freedom by NET,by Car,by Money,by Geography, etc...Yet all of these points to the Main Headline freedom precisely. And now that therell be plural "team"s it will be good to have topic with already many viewpoints which everyone will create one of theirs too.
Don't know if this is a good idea for the team contest but maybe interesting for a future contest. Just black and white (greyscale), see what people can come up with without the use of color.
Well,if we need a specific topic we will need to have a hell of an "elemination work"... ;)
OBJECTS:food,internet,photo machinary,computers
EMOTIONS:joy,sadness,love...fear...hmm yeah...yeah..i suggest FEAR... I love that contest idea i am really eager to find a topic now...grrr... L.O.L.
fairy tales, folk tales, proverbs, mythological creatures are a few ones that bounce around in my head, i quite like the idea of doing one on fear tho....everyones got one. :o
Caedes said simple, which is rather difficult to come up with. No good ideas for that, but if it was more complex...how about friendship? Siblings? The ideal location and relaxing environment for one's personal comfort? I assume a lot of surreal pictures would come through that. Maybe a harder to render image, but one's guess of a landscape in the depths of an ocean including wildlife?
love, and probably fears are more specific, but something like joy would be wide open. although I think anything could make a theme if approached right, its good to see all the brainstorm. curious as to one thing tho, in past contests there were several winners, would there still be several teams to win, or just every team member is a winner? The current contest winner page format uses several images, it would look kind of empty with just one image, but then again you really wouldnt want to have several teams be winners.
This is what it says once you have signed up for a particular team: "The group will be officially created as soon as all members have set their group choice the same are yours." So, it looks to me like every team member has to sign up for the same team and then it's on.
I think if we do another team contest we should try and mix up the groups. Try and pair with someone you dont know. Most of us paired up with cliques that already existed. Even I paired with Tieneke!
tbhockey: thanks guys.
