The Rebel is certainly a very good camera.
The real interest with the DSLRs is to choose or to change of lenses.
The standard lens on the Rebel is actually the Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 USM . Excellent entry level.
The IS version is stabilized. That's very interesting in low light.
But, you can buy the body, then another lens in the canon family, or Sigma, Tamron, Tokina, ...
I saw in your gallery some flowers captures. If you like them, you can choose a lens with macro function, like the Sigma 17-70mm F2.8-4.5 DC MACRO Without macro, but with USM (internal motor), the Canon EF-S 17-85mm f/4-5.6 IS USM would be a very good choice too...
If you like travels, you'll certainly appreciate the Sigma 18-200mm f3.5-6.3 DC OS . It can take landscapes and portraits without problems.
Good luck :-)
Yes: OS (Sigma) = IS (Canon) = VR (Nikon) = optical stab.
The Pentax has a Shake Reduction system inside the body himself (like a lot of recent bridges)
Ooooo I can hardly wait to get my own REBEL...I just wish they would come down in price. But everyone that has one has sure shown how wonderful that camera is. I own a Canon AE1 SLR and I still love it. Now Canon has taken the country(world too!) by storm with this wonderful camera...Can't wait til I can get my very own.....gotta get a bit richer first...Verena
I did get a rebel for x-mas. Got it from Costco in a big pack including: the rebel xti, the 18-55mm lens, the 74-300mm usm(not IS), a 1GB card, a UV filter, tutorial DVD and a gadget bag 2400! It was $850 @ costco in MT. I think I will get the Canon 60mm f2.8 Macro lens to suit my needs there, I have read vendor and user reviews that say its pretty good. it fits in my budget a lot better than the 100mm. Thanks for all your help!
It sounds like all your Christmases came at once. I’m sure you in for a lot of fun with that little lot :-) Can I suggest that you consider extension rings to go with the 74-300. They are cheaper and lighter than a macro lens and the results are just as good.
I have been looking into those, I have a boat-load of them for my Kodak, but they are all 52mm (egad!). I am interested in the 60mm as I have read of several people getting good results with portrait shooting. thanks for the input though!
