Rework the front page news on the site so that the articles come from the discussion forum. This way, good discussions can be promoted to the front page easily.

good discussion?? are there any that aren't hijacked?? *kidding.. Good idea.. I think the Vigilante forum should be a permanent on the front page, there's a lot that i've notified about rips who didn't even know it existed..

Great idea - maybe a single r/hand column with regularly updated links to items of interest, although not necesarily by activity level - - many of the high activity level discussions are because they are controversial, often serve little or no purpose and would be better left to die. Conversely there are interesting informative and helpful threads that are unseen by the majority (?)of members.

A simple link to a list of the day/weeks latest new discussion topics may also work?
Then we could skim through and see if there is anything of interest to us.

Basically, this would be a way for me to easily promote good topics to the front page. It would also remove most of the special coding for the "News Article" function.

That's a great idea. Maybe the Feature Bloat forum too ? Though that's just an off the cuff thought.
