Along with the hundred or so new Panasonic Lumix compacts launched today, Nikon also launched the replacement for the D40X – the D60. That’s right replacement – the D40 lasted a full four months, the D40X managed twice that, an eight month shelf life does seem a bit tight though. At least they had the good sense to keep to a 10MP sensor configuration.
I think you have it the other way around. The d40 was out before the d40x. However i do agree. This seems pretty quick. I was not expecting that. But i suppose that is more the way the compacts are replaced, so it shouldn't really surprise me that a dslr that is essentially a compact is "upgrade" so quickly.
yep - three changes in about a year is far too quick. Kind of loosing track & interest in the compact market. some manufacturers ranges are absolutely mind boggling.
Maybe. The way i read it is you said the d40 lasted 4 months, while the d40x lasted 8. But whatever. Its not a big deal. I agree with you. I just looked of the specs of the d60, and honestly can not tell you what is different at all. I would imagine if i actually bothered to remember the specs of these entry level slrs i would notice a few differences, but i can't be bothered to remember things about them anymore.
The announcements that are more interesting are the lenses. A 16-85 2.5-5.6 VR looks like it would make a very nice entry kit lens.
It's also interesting that they made a new tilt shift lens. I need to talk one of my friends into buying one of those so i can play with it a bit. I'm curious how they work and such.
As was expected - the third part lens manufacturers are also rolling out more Nikon friendly lenses - Tamron announced three more lenses suitable for the Nikon D40, D40x and D60. The 18-220 f/3.5-6.3, the 17-50 f/2.8 and the 70-300 f/4-5.6.
