Id like to be able to vot categoricly. So I can choose to vote on photography, Computer, Illustrations etc etc. For a few reasons. Well in my short time here it is no secret that this site has a lot of photographs, and I like them a lot but ill tell you the truth, I have some experience/classroom time with photography but if some image gets thrown infront of me and im supposed to vote on it. The image might look good to me but does it exibit great photography or not, I really don't know. In the world of cameras how hard was it to capture that? I don't know.

Illustrations well they are cool and can be fun to look at but they really are not my cup of tea and in turn I don't enjoy voting on them to much.

To me CGI is my area, it's what I like, it's what I learn, and it's what I like to see. I can give a more accurate vote on an image because I have more of an idea on what kind of work this took, think about how effect X was achieved, take into consideration the limitations of hardware.

Get my drift?

People ask how I can spend so much time on a computer in a day. I ask how a painter can stand infront of canvas all day.

Kalen, voting and the c-index are some of the most contentious debates going around here .. and this exact same reaction that you are feeling has been brought up before .. many times

the reasoning for putting images you aren't familiar with was actually done on purpose .. for better or worse .. it was to temper the "WOW" of the fan with the "Ho-Hum" of the non-plussed 'man-on-the-street' ... in order to arrive at a more sedate 'real' score on how a particular image MOVED its audience

voting and scoring has seen some changes in past years .. for a time you could vote on the actual image's info-page, but this led to extremely high scores because only people drawn to the image were likely to vote on it .. scores were easily in the 80-90 range ...

there IS some logic to the approach .. it "works on paper", as they say

I suggest you sit back, ride the tide, and you just might be in the cat-bird seat when the next change rolls down the pike
