I've been looking to purchase a new macro lens for awhile now. I have a Nikon D80 and have been looking at some lenses. This one caught my eye "105mm f/2.8G ED-IF AF-S VR Micro-Nikkor" it is around the price I am able to spend on a new lens(around $800). If anyone can give me any feedback on that lens or a certain one they have I'd really appreciate it.

After reading a few of the consumer feedbacks on amazon it came down to Tamron 90 Macro 2.8 vs the 105mm f/2.8G ED-IF AF-S VR Micro-Nikkor. The Tamron is about 460 dollars. The Nikon lens says its a little over 1,000 dollars but its slashed down to $780. So I guess my question is the Tamron 90mm that good of a macro or is the Nikon's Vibration reduction and Silent Wave Motor worth the money?
Thanks for that link, it led me to that other link you posted. From the information provided I would buy the Tamron 90mm. Sadly the link you provided din't test any of the Nikon lenses.
Thanks Milo that thread did provide some useful information. To bad that awesome macro lens was for a Canon:(. till wondering how The Nikon 105mmVR compares to the Tamrom 90mm. It looks like the Nikon's a better all around lens, but from what I've read the Tamron might be a better suited macro lens.
