Hi All, just been talking to Bob aka DUNSTIKIN, and he said he would like to become a MOD, great idea.....as Bob is at home most days and looking for something to do, he is always on the site from am to pm, and his knowledge of photography is spot on, a real nice chap who is always willing to help you out, as a long standing member, I thing he would make a great MOD, what do you think ?

The way to become a mod is first to become an Aedile (&...)
I can post on the mods forum for the next nomination session. Maybe Bob should confirm his interest though.
I would most definitely endorse Bob's nomination. He would be a fine addition.
Clicking on 'candidates' in the The Aediles Assemblyleads to nothing - does this mean there are no candidates or are they visible only to the heirarchy?
There must be others also who are members of over 2 years who would be assets.
I notice there is one "&" who has not visited since 2006. (?)
It's a super idea. Thanks Mark for bringing this idea forward and thanks to the others for supporting that idea! I agree too with Pierre's (ppigeon) comment.

Lyn: I thing the 'candidates' link was built for the previous nomination session.
The last session is really recent. So I don't think we'll have a new one soon...
That's democracy ;-)
Owd Timer would be perfect. He has the knowledge, ability and honesty to be a great asset to the Mod Squad. If you can keep him off the bench and awake, I say go for it. Be sure and let us know when decision is made.
While I in no way want to doubt Bob's abilities or suitability as a mod I just want to point out that there are certain criteria and steps taken in selecting moderators and Aediles members.
As Pierre pointed out you first need to be an Aediles member for a period before you are considered for the promotion to Praetor.
Aediles members have to be members for at least 2 years, be active in the forums, helpful and respectful to other members, add a positive influence to the site and show patience, maturity and intelligence in their actions (to name just a few!).
Once a person meets those criteria they are nominated for Aediles membership by existing Aediles and Praetor members. This is normally done at certain intervals (mostly longer than 6 months). The last period was in November 2007.
Once a member has been a Aediles for a while and has proven their conduct, they are again nominated for Praetor membership by existing Praetors and Aediles members when Praetor membership becomes available.

I thank Mark for his suggestion on this topic!....It has certainly came as a shock to me!....
I appreciate what you have said KJ .. It hits home the responsibility that the 'mods' have to be aware of!...
I feel humble that so many have thought of me in a role like this....At the moment I don't know what I feel at the thought of doing this kind of 'job'!....
Bob was a MOD when Roger Daltrey was in Nappies so he should find it easy enough...So dig out the parka polish the winkle pickers bonny lad and rev up the Vespa (stop looking in them thar mirrors)time to get the Toga on..Richie.
If it is something Bob is interested in doing, then he would certainly get my vote! ...he dedicates so much of his time to the site and that is proof enough I think!

What I think Crusader and Pierre were politely trying to say is that elections don't happen by popular vote, although all member opinions are always welcome.
Nominations and Elections both take place in the Senate Clubhouse after everyone present has sworn undying loyalty to the DungeonMaster, drank the bug juice, and turned in a circle 3 times with bonus points if they can wedgie someone w/out getting caught.
The process is so secret that not even the nominees may know they are up for election (I sure didn't). So - if you think someone would make a good Aedile, message your nearest Plus or And Sign, and recommend them for nomination along with your reasons why you think they're deserving of the nod whenever the next round of elections comes up (which is not regular, nor announced til after it's over). The Plus or And Sign can then apply for an Equality function.
(Disclaimer - Kids schoolwork has gone to my brain - does it show? If not, re-read my cheesy math references again, or you'll receive a failing grade on this assignment.)
I believe that when the time is right and if Bob would want it, we could not do better than to have this fine man and artist as a mod on this site. He has shown many times his interest in Caedes and he has proven that he is a fantastic photographer time and time again. I know our votes do not count, but carry my full endorsement of owd as a wishful vote in your back pocket.

In view of the qualifications set forth by KJ to be chosen for Aediles, I have to wonder...WHAT'S THE HOLD UP? Bob should have been chosen long time ago.

How can I become a Senate member?
We really only add Senate members to the caedes.net team when we see that there is a specific need (either due to the absense of a current Praetor/Consul or due to increased workload). The procedure is for the current Praetori to make nominations and then for the Praetor Maximus to make the final selection from this group.
"due to increased workload"
With respect to the mods there has been at times concern expressed by them about the time consuming and often frustrating workload they have. So it would seem (from a distance) that is has increased, either by volume of frustration value ?
I really do not see that anyone has suggested a reward - rather an effort to ease the situation by suggesting a well respected, well liked and loyal caedes member who would perhaps be willing to share the responsibility :)
Eve, the above situation you mentioned was resolved with the promotion of three (3) Praetors to Consuls, promotion of six (6) Aediles to Praetors and the appointment of four (4) new Aediles in January of 2008..
I believe the frustration that was spoken of was prior to the new promotions/appointments. :o)
Wow, the whole process is secret and you have to PM your nearest aedilies, so can we take this whole thread, wrap it up and send it as a recommendation with the above stated reasons as to why we believe Bob Graham would make a good mod? It is what Cat said to do, but now that it is a public recommendation, can we revert it to a secret one?
I am not sure what you are saying Cindy? PM who? This is about *caedes, not about a secret. It is his site ,and set-up the way he chooses. I was simply re-interating those facts.
I am sorry if I have offended anyone by doing that.
Please feel free to continue this discussion. =)
Now you have me puzzled, mimi. I'm sorry but you offended no one. I was referring to Cat's comment that it is a 'secret' election, but if we wanted we are free to send a message to an Aediles recommending someone and giving reasons as to why we think they are a good choice. And I suggested that this entire thread would suffice as such a recommendation, only it is not a private recommendation, but a public one.
OK Cindy...thanks so much for the clarification. I truly appreciate it. Sorry for the misunderstanding.
It is mentioned that if someone is being 'considered' for a Senate election that it not be discussed outside of the Senate which is why Cat mentioned PM's and also why a public declaration is not really a correct way to go per *caedes set-up of the Senate system.
Hope this helps :o)

the requirements for mods and aediles nominations are quite clear and transparent. having a lot of time on your hands isnt one of them. if and when the next round of nominations comes for aediles and mod promotion, I'm sure any and all worthy candidates will be put forward.
