Anyone own a 1D?

Currently I'm using a 20D. I used a 5D over Christmas for a bit because I found one really cheap on ebay that I knew I could resell for more. If I had the money to keep it I would have, but I just didn't.

This summer though I'll be making some more money and I'd like to get something new. I've read a lot about the original 1D, and it seems great. I've never used a 1 series camera and I'd love to, especially since they're going for like $700-800 these days. The only thing I'm only slightly worried about is the fact that it's only 4.2MP. Now I'm NOT one of those people who thinks MP is the only thing that makes a camera, so that's why I'm only slightly worried about it. I like to make prints of 11x17 and larger. Is 4.2MP good enough?

Other than that, what do people think of it, good quality images? I know the battery life isn't that great but I don't care, I'll just buy more batteries. I'm coming from a 20D so keep that in mind. Will I be impressed or let down coming from a 20D?

Thanks!
Ian

It is a terrific camera and I have seen wonderful A3 prints from it but I would really doubt its ability to do so regularly. I think you will be frustrated by the limitations of 4.2MP. Perhaps you would be better of staying with the 20D or going for a 40D providing you can find one in your price range.

Shame about the 5D, that’s a dream camera.

There are three colours, Ten digits and seven notes, its what we do with them that’s important. Ruth Ross

Hey Ian,
I think you will love that 1D series camera,
I have a Nikon D2H (4mp as well) and while I have yet to try out printing A3 sized images, I have read it handles it pretty nicely, (~8
As I shoot Nikon, I cannot argue other features of the camera, but for that price, I say go ahead,

Wish you good luck
Warm regards
Tim
