Hi, all. Just checked in to find my recent upload, "The Door" has achieved (is that the right word?) a c-index of 39. Tell me - - is it THAT bad???? Thanks. Wen

Hi.... Thanks for posting the LINK and thanks for responding. Les, a great BIG THANK YOU for your e-mail! I have responded to you directly via e-mail but your suggestions were VERY helpful! So, no, you haven't dissuaded me in the least! Again, any and all comments and suggestions are welcome! Wen

39 is an achievement for me! I have 18 images below that, but I don't take any notice of the c-index now. I rely on views, downloads and comments to gauge how popular an image is.
Even then I don't do as well as most :(
Hi, Paul (.artytoit)...after perusing your gallery, I must concur that, from my point of view, your ratings significantly UNDERvalue your images. Keep up the good work! Wen
Thanks Wendy, after some meaningful conversations with Les (purmusic) I think a lot of it may be down to the difference between TFT monitors and CRT monitors. Check out my version of 'Living Dead' and Les's rework and let either of us know what you think?
Well I just took a look at the two versions of "Living Dead" and find the c-index rating of 18 on your original ridiculously low, Paul. I do think that the original version is enhanced by bringup up the brightness, as Les did, but I think your photomanipulation in this piece is quite impressive. I only wish I wouldn't have been eating a sandwich when I checked it out. <G> Nice work. Wen
I remember this picture, I had found it pretty good actually. However, this is not a "mainstream" image. These kind of images do not score well on the c-index in my opinion.

I think if someone posted this as a photograph, rather than a CG image, some people might consider it a snapshot (eg, someone just took a photo of their own front door). As a painting though, it would be viewed in a different context (IMPO). So maybe you could take it as a compliment that the people who voted mistook it for a photo? But maybe some people would disagree that a photo of this subject would be a snapshot. Just saying what my impression was.
Hi, all. Thanks for all your feedback. There's always room for improvement, of that I am sure. I just continue to find the low relative scoring on computer generated images noteworthy and am not sure what to make of it. I AM glad to know that some of my favorite artists here didn't think "The Door" was THAT bad though. <G> Wen
Wendy - WARNING! No sugarcoating here! just an Honest Opinion! After investigating the picture in a large view, I think I have spotted the problem. . . Gulp! Its just not an interesting picture. Artistically it is very well rendered, Technically it is very detailed and complete, but, the overall presentation lacks the ability to generate much interest. Is there a way to improve this picture? technically - No! Artistically - yes, make it more abstract by detailing with contrasting colors. Just my honest opinion, I hope it helped.
While trying to create good pictures, I feel as if I am standing on the edge of Insanity. There is a door. I found myself knocking on the door. The door opened.. . . I was knocking from the inside. Oh Rats!
If I wanted "sugarcoating," Jerry, I wouldn't have posted in this section. Thanks for your honest opinion! I'll mull it over carefully and take your suggestion re: "making it more abstract" into consideration. Problem is, I've found that making 3D images such as this more "abstract" tends to prompt feedback that it isn't "realistic" enough..... Thanks again for your effort to help! Wen
Wendy, when viewed as an artistic creation this image has much to be commended. However it isn’t a great wallpaper because people like bright vivid pretty (and or cute) pictures for their wallpaper.
I suggest that you take comfort from the wonderful comments it has received and ignore the c-index.
