My camera broke. I won't go into complete technical details, but basically I can't see anything (it will take shots, but i'm aiming blind).

SOOooo, I am hoping you all could direct me towards a good camera in probably the $300-500 range. This time I want want with decently good zoom, and fairly good at macro. Size isn't a big issue.

Nikon D40
An excellent entry level DSLR.
No big zoom and no macro, but you can buy them later :-)

Consider for a point and shoot Canon Powershot G9 12.1MP with 6x Optical Image Stabilized Zoom and also has a raw mode. Also, but it`s a wee bit over your budget and your going to need a lens but at more than half off a bargin SLRThe Canon XTI. I use the predecessor to this and know a good few others here do as well.

If you'd like something for macro, check out some of the offerings from Olympus and Fuji. Some of their advanced point and shoot offerings might fit what you're seeking. Oh, Panasonic might also have something for you too.

I have to agree with the G9 Powershot it has a wealth of features and will continue to serve you well as you improve your picture taking abilities.

Second the D40. Not the X with unnecessary extra megapixels, get the 6mp original. Superb cam.
