What qualifies a person for the Artists Spotlight?

What determines if someone 'qualifies' to be voted in the "Artists Spotlight?" Is there some place we can read what the qualifications are? Does that person have to make many comments? Or be in caedes a certain amount of time? Or what is it?

My guess is that its for the members that have been here for awhile, and that have filled their galleries with plenty of good images. The artists that are being chosen are those that contribute allot on this site. How the council decides which of the artists deemed qualified is beyond me though.

Ideally, nominations should be for currently active artists who show both a mastery of their talent and a range of exploration. See here

As long as you upload images into your gallery regularly people can nominate you for the Artist Spotlight they send a PM to Mimi I pretty sure it goes off how many other people have nominated you too.

Verena, it still works the same way. You are nominated by your peers on the site.
The 2 major requirements are that it be someone who frequents the site as well as having an more extensive gallery versus 1 page of images....
It has nothing to do with your time on the site nor with your number of comments. It is purely votes, just like an election. Follow Cats link above and everything you need to know is right there for you.

Any further questions, please PM me .

Thanks....

Is having a good makeup artist a plus? You know, those spotlights can cast a harsh light. :o|

And yes, I am kidding.

I have seen artists "win" who have been here for a very short period of time, I have also seen artists who rarely comment, due to whatever their circumstances, and I have known of some that were what we would consider "newbies". I have even seen some that have few postings, and then there are those that have excellent photos and comment on others, and yet they have not been in the "artists spotlight." I just haven't been able to figure it out, that's why I felt I needed to ask. I've even received PMs asking if I knew how to vote for someone etc. Maybe something to consider would be just to do a nice BIO. on the artists in here instead of making it a "contest" per se' and placing one person up as the Main Artist. What do you all think of that? Would that work maybe?

I don't see it as a contest.. I see it as an honor from fellow artists.. I don't know where you get newbies from as all the Artists who have been awarded have been around for awhile and have great galleries. as for doing a "nice BIO" that is already written by the artist who was nominated so really it isn't any difference of "doing" a BIO or being nominated either way it is ONE person and I think having to be nominated is a good thing it makes you feel appreciated and shows that you are respected by fellow artists..

This is not a contest Verena. It is a feature of the site started by Piner. It is a compilation of votes PM'd to me by your fellow artists.
Nothing has changed since the inception of the artist spotlight except the time one is featured.

I'm sorry for using the word "contest"...I guess I'm just not so sure on some things. I feel things have changed a lot here. I've been here 4 years, and at the beginning the C Index was much better, comments were more of a critique, as they should be, and it seemed things were more pleasant. That is not to say there aren't good things now, because I know there are. I have some very dear friends here. What I meant by "newbies" was there are people who have been here a short period of time, posted a few photos and made few true comments of a critique nature, yet they have become "spotlighted". And again, that is NOT to say that's a bad thing, I just feel maybe there needs to be a bit more to this. There are many deserving artists in caedes of course, and they would all appreciate being the Spotlight person. I'm just saying it might be nice to have every artist either by alphatecial order or by random choosing, have a nice Bio done by them. That would get us all to know each other more as people, as artists, as friends. Sorry I used CONTEST, it wasn't mean to bring harmful feelings.

I have never seen someone spotlighted who has been here for less than a year or had less than 36 images in their gallery (except for the *caedes and I think we can cut him some slack). A year's worth of time is sufficient not to have them called a "newbie", and it does not have to do with the number or quality of their comments. Please check your info before making these kinds of statements again, I find them highly insulting to the artists who have been selected.

When Samatar originally started this, his sole intention was to highlight artists whose work others had been inspired by. Thereby "Spotlight" - this is the reason that it is member nominated rather than anybody doing any kind of autoprocess OR handselecting. He was also hoping that it would cause people to ask those artists more questions that they felt could lead to an improvement in their work, but that did not happen.

You can ask him how he feels about it, but if you want every artist to have their own recognition, start a different program, this one is currently fulfilling it's intended role.

For a full list and links to the members spotlighted to date, please see here. That should give you a better reference point to use before any more discussion about this..

I apologize, what else can I say. I meant NO harm. I know the feelings here. I know some have been here over 3, 4 or even 5 yrs and not been spotlighted, but that's NOT the important part, the important part is the friends we make and the things we enjoy seeing. After all, it IS a wallpaper sight and many people don't come for the quality of the photos, but just to be able to choose what they want on their monitors. I have always tried to give good comments and been a friend and also to be helpful to anyone on here. I personally meant NO offense at all, I just used the wrong words, and to be honest, animaniactoo, I feel a bit insulted by what you perceived things to be.I would NEVER EVER insult anyone on here, Never. You can ask most anyone on here, I try to keep a low profile, and not get in on "gossip" or anything else. I have some dear friends, and if I offended anyone, please let them know they can come talk to me about it. Thank you. Verena

Verena, it is not my perception, but rather your stated words:

"I have seen artists "win" who have been here for a very short period of time, I have also seen artists who rarely comment, due to whatever their circumstances, and I have known of some that were what we would consider "newbies". I have even seen some that have few postings, and then there are those that have excellent photos and comment on others, and yet they have not been in the "artists spotlight.""

"What I meant by "newbies" was there are people who have been here a short period of time, posted a few photos and made few true comments of a critique nature, yet they have become "spotlighted"."

I am not saying that you purposely insulted anyone nor wanted to do so. I have no problem with the idea that you spoke from your personal memory and perception, but in doing so you made the statement that people who have been selected are not truly deserving even though you declaimed that was what you were doing. My main goal was to clear that up before that perception spread any further.

If there is someone that you feel has not yet been spotlighted and has been overlooked, feel free to continue to submit their name every month to Mimi who is currently organizing the Spotlight. Sooner or later, their time will come if other people have also been inspired by their work and nominate them.

If you would like to see artists highlighted in a different way, feel free to start your own program. There is no problem with that, it is entirely up to you what you would do with such a program.

Most of your questions could easily have been answered without any public issue had you simply messaged the person in charge of the program. In fact I don't understand why anyone who was confused about how to vote or why would not have simply messaged Mimi, or that you would not have told them to do so yourself. As with anything else, when you want an answer, the easiest thing to do is talk to the person with the most knowledge about it.

Also - I am confused by this statement: "After all, it IS a wallpaper sight and many people don't come for the quality of the photos, but just to be able to choose what they want on their monitors". I would disagree and say that people DO come for the quality of photos and other images in addition to the community aspect of this site. It is one of the things that makes Caedes a unique place to share and belong.

Mimi wrote me and I answered her. You seem to insist on writing here. I see no reason for it.I don't know why you insist on making a big issue over this. If you need help with this issue either write me or just drop it. If you wish to say more to me, write me a PM or an email. I will say nothing else here. Verena

*shakes head unbelievable how these threads get twisted around from the beginning to the end by the people who start the threads and the people who answer them. Makes you wonder why people ask questions and why people bother to answer either way its a no win situation LMAO
