In terms of quality I prefer the latest version to the first one; it looks like you used a filter on the first? Anyway the second is clearer and more natural looking. The sky was also overexposed in the first shot and you have avoided this the second time. One thing that the first shot had going for it is that it was more evenly lit, the shadow which covers about half of the area of the shot in the second is distracting, however this may also be what assisted you in not overexposing the sky. It can be difficult to achieve good even lighting outdoors in some locations and may require you to pick the best time of day for the site you are visiting. Compositionally I believe the second shot is better, you have captured more of the river and avoided cutting off the tops of the trees; however there is no real centre of interest to draw the eye, and I also think you should have excluded more of the messy foreground and perhaps you still needed to widen the shot even more to avoid cutting the bend in the river to the right slightly. That being said I am not really an expert on landscapes, others may have different opinions/ideas.
