What famous/ professional artists were your biggest influences?

Mine are M. C. Escher, Dali, Robert Williams, Ed "Big Daddy" Roth, Derek Riggs and Ansel Adams.

The work of art may have a moral effect, but to demand moral purpose from an artist is to make him ruin his work. (Johann Wolfgang von Goethe - 1832)

MC Escher is also one of my favorites. And - though she is not an artist in the sense of this thread I also am influenced by Bjork. I listen to her music most often while I am creating one of my pieces...or Billie Holiday. to me music and art go together.

For WinterNight and tbhockey: Dali is the guy who painted the one with the melting clocks... I'm sure you must have seen it, even if you didn't know the name...

I had to do a search B4 I remembered who he was, but yes, I do like some of his work, especially "Castle in the Pyrenees". I did almost a whole semester in Art at high school based around that painting. He also did the one with the guy in the bowler hat, didn't he? I am trying to remember that painting, am I right in thinking he didn't have a face? Or it was replaced by an apple?

BTW, in terms of who I am inspired by... I will be philosophical and say Mother Nature...

I think I have seen something by Magritte before, but personally that type of art isn't my cup of tea.
