I have taken a little time to code up the new site design in xhtml. As this is the first page I've ever made that adhears to the xhtml 1.0 spec I'd like some feadback on the quality of the job that I've done. Note that I've already verified that the markup validates according to w3c.org.
I've only been testing the design with Firefox and IE (5.0 I think), so I'm particularly interested in how the page looks in various browsers, so if you see someting odd just post me a screenshot of the problem. Thanks.
Very clean look (with Firefox 0.10). Color scheme does not distract. Excellent layout, not too busy. Will await the navigation aspects with interest. And your Latin is much better than mine (quod erat demon- strandum).
27 Sep 04: Upon new inspection, the page does seem slightly off-center biased to the left. The 'smite member' option engenders a strange and oddly appealing fascination.
In creaky, old Mozilla 1.3.1, it shows the same problem as IE 6.0.2. Does this mean the latest IE is only as good as Mozilla from a year ago? Meanwhile, I concur that it looks incredibly cool on Firefox 0.9.1 & 0.9.3.
I also have the IE6 problem. Also another thing, I know it's early days, but when viewed at 800x600 the site is a bit too wide and requires horisontal scrolling.
Personally I wouldn't code the site for a 800x600 size - surely most people will be using 1024x768+
I have the same problem with IE6 - positioning looks weird on the nav menus as per rebecca's pic. Also (as per the pic again) the href links under the user profile are showing text decoration and the hover doesn't seem to work.

To start off, it does look very nice. It looks awkward, only because it is different, but much more clean and professional (not that it is bad now). For some reason, it reminds me of those fancy futuristic cars in "Minority Report" and "i, Robot". Just a little difficulty reading the text...
I apologize, I have no idea how to check what kind of browser I have, but if someone could explain, i could give it to you. It has the same problem on mine as the others, the off centered buttons and links.
I hate to mention it here, but what is xhtml? I know barely anything about it before they x appeared. I hate to bother the "pros" with dumb questions...
With Microsoft Internet Explorer you can check your browser version by clicking on "Help" inthe toolbar and then "About Internet Explorer" I would hazard to guess it would be a similar process in other browsers as well.
XHTML is a new html specification that is XML compliant.
I think that it is odd that IE 5.0 works fine and IE 6 is broken. Usually software get MORE compliant with later releases. Unless of course it is something that I've done incorrectly which is the problem. Any idea from those who have looked at the code?
If you don't know what your browser is, stuffnstuff, the chances are that it is IE.
I believe that XHTML (extensible hypertext markup language) is the next step from HTML 4. It is effectively HTML 4 written as an XML application. Other than that, I know not.

The layout's working fine in Firefox (1.0PR -- just released! go get it!). You're right that it's funky in IE, and in some other browsers. I'm sure we can fix it up well. :)
From the look of it (and it does look very good at that) the new design doesn't bring any new features to the site really, so its just re design of the layout and presentation not the content. Am I right? Because if there are new features I'd like to know about them!
