caedes growing !!??

It seems that caedes is growing exposive. or...

Anny way, I got less reactions on my wallpapers. The question is why.
One thing that I can imagine is that it takes to mutch time to watch the big ammount of wallpapers of one gallery of some ones intrest.
The other thing I can imagine is that I dont post much wallpapers lately. So i dont get mutch atention for my personal gallery. ( i dont care anyway ).

The thing is: if gallerys get verry big, most people wil never see all pictures of one gallery if its a big one.
I have seen all the galleries of my intrest. And now I just check the new wallpapers in the " New Images Gallery " But for new comers tis would be a hel of a job. And gallerys are still growing.

This same theory might work for the voting system. ( I stoped voting vor a long time but thats a other subject )

Or is the amount of wallpapers restricted to a certain number ? Cant be, what when there are more members than wallpapers ;-P

is this a serius problem or am i just dreaming ?

I too have noticed a decrease in the amount of comments and votes received and I've only been here a short time. And Caedes is definitely growing by leaps and bounds :) I'm not suprised because it's such a great site. I'm really not sure what can be done to increase the amount of comments given, if anything. I'd be interested to see what others think.

I wasn't going to say anything until I could make a graph of it. =\

Update: the horizontal axis is a rough metric of time (most recent on the right). The vertical axis is the average number of comments per image after the image's first week.

I'm afraid I don't understand the graph...seems like it needs more qualifiers. Is that a graph for a particular image? Sorry I'm a bit dense in these things.

ah... nice a graph..thx ceades....I wonder what the scales are. and this would be nice to compare to a graph with parameters as numer of members/visitors/wallpapers all with a chronological match.

Yeah I must be reading it wrong or not understanding it too. ..because I alone make like a least 8 comments a day. ..and thats a really small number for 96,985 members. ..im definatly reading it wrong!! ..please explain.

For those not understanding, my assumption is that the graph is the average number of comments per image per week, over just a little more than a year (that's the unlabeled axis). So, at peak, each image recieved an average of 7.5 comments in a week. We seem to be growing out of a low of 3.5 comments per image per week. So each image recieves roughly half the attention it used to.

wow that graph is pretty depressing, you should place this graph against a graph depicting the growth of regular members.

Is this the number of comment's per week from the AVERAGE MEMBER? If so It would be interresting to compare this to the same average members number of votes. I'm hoping that it's just a busy summer phenomenon where everyone wants to share but doesn't have time to stick around an hour or so to type in a few comments. I've seen quite a few images lately that have a bunch of views and downloads but little or no comment. Got some of those myself. I tend to work with several windows open, right now I've got 7 pages up. And I am sometimes guilty of clicking that vote tab and moving on, but I also leave quite a few comments. I'm sure that is the intent of the new 'lonely images' catagory since there are some decent c-indexes there but not a lot of comment. So my question to you Caedes would be; Does this seem like a seasonal thing or the result of heavy traffic?

I notice that the graph has started to climb just a little. Could it be that people were distracted by the olympics?

Thanks for clarifying the graph for us xentrix and caedes. I'm not sure that the lack of comments can be explained away by the olympics...but I suppose it is a possibility.

I would assume it's a symptom of the growth of the site, along with the summertime in the Northern Hemisphere. There's a reason TV networks don't bring out their "best" (certainly a relative term in this case) shows in the summer; people aren't sitting inside, they're out because it's warm and sunny. Students (also a large demographic here) are at home during the summer, not avoiding study by using their campus' broadband.

I've noticed a lot of people who sign in as I see there name from time to time, and when I go to their profile page some have been members for a long time, yet they have a karma of "0" - and they have no gallery, and no-one has left comments on their page. I get the feeling that for some it's a place to drop in take images and leave without contributing. Am I just paranoid? But I think that some effort should be put into caedes if you are getting a lot out of it.

That is not wrong !
If people ask me for a site where they can find cool wallpapers should i send them somewhere els cause they are not creative them self ?

I think its OK... I would be honnored to share wallpapers on the site where half the world gets its wallpaper.

Commenting on what mythica said....
I agree with you, except I wouldn't judge users because they don't have a gallery of their own images. Some people may not like to create images and upload them to a free site. However, after being a member for say, a year at least, they should have some karma. I've been a member for about 6 months and I have a karma of 38, I don't know if that's good or bad. But you also have to remember that people can only take 4 images without voting, as they must vote on 1/5 of the images they download. I think that when people download images, they should vote on almost all of them. I can also see a user not having a favorites gallery, because until a couple weeks ago I didn't even know what the favorites was. I always saw where to add images but I thought it was for your Internet favorites. Also, I think that the graph caedes provided for us is a bit confusing because there is no time period listed on the x-axis. The time showed on the graph could be a week, or it could be a year.

I was a member for a yr b4 I ever uploaded an image, another few months b4 I ever spoke.
I've said b4, its a desktop wallpaper site, there are a whole heck of alot more people that come here for desktops than people who create them. I'd rather not everyone who comes here talk and upload, it would be ridiculous.

You're right Anthony. ..I mean there are today 97731 people on the site and about ..roughly 50 regulars. ..and yesterday there were like 97500 people ..the site is really growing explosively.

My comment was more general, and I have no problem with anyone who has no gallery of their own! (I don't JUDGE, people here) I said in combination of no gallery, no karma, no comments. I am entitled to my own opinion about this as others are entitled to theirs. My contribution to the discussion is that of ratio between what some people are getting out of this site, versus what some people are contributing is seeming to get more disproportionate. I've noticed a sharp drop in comments (if any) on some images (not just my own), yet the downloads are the same or higher. This is purely my observation, and I too would find every person commenting ridiculous, but that is the pendulum swinging fully the other way, I think the general feel is a noticable decline in comments/votes. Like I said - just an observetion.

I think the lack of commenting can be faulted to the regular members more so than the members who just come to download. They simply arent commenting as much

If pet images like puppies and kittens make a good wallpaper its OK whit me. But often the blind love for a pet a child or girlfriend makes the wallpaper for the owner a 10/10 wallpaper. Cause of this blindes you see lots of pet/child/girlfriend wallpapers that are to personal an not intresting for an outsider.
