I always use my lens hood on my Canon 70mm-200mm for my bird and bug photos, Should I remove it as the sun goes down, or in the early morning light? Probably a stupid question, but I really don't know.
It can only do good if you leave it on, as far as I know.
- Lens shock absorber (sort of)
- Always the possibility of stray light
- Makes the lens look more impressive
- Easier to simply leave it on
- Doesn't do anything 'bad' to the image
I've found it best to leave it on, but I left mine on backwards. The lens will stow easier while mounted to the camera body, and will allow easier access to the lens front for filter changes. The only disadvantage is if you use the flip-up flash at close distances.. the hood will cast a shadow.
Please, even if you don't visit my gallery, check out my "Faves".I've left them intact since day "1", and would like it if every image there got the attention they deserved.
