Question about a Panasonic DMC FZ 50 camera

I purchased a Panasonic DMC FZ 50 camera over one month ago but apparently there is a problem while transfering photos from the camera to the computer, the transfert rate is weak and yet i have a Panasonic 4 Go class6 20 Mo/s SDHC card, for example it takes about 4 or 5 seconds to transfert a 3 or 4 Mo photo and it is the same for each photo so it becomes painful as it takes a long time to transfert the photos,it should be faster than that,i searched via Google to see if there is a solution for this problem but unfortunately i did not find anything so i contacted Panasonic but unfortunately there is still no answer so that is why i preferred to ask here in case someone would (or did) encounter the same problem, thank you.

Genver, I have a Panasonic FZ series camera and have had no problems with transfers or transfer rate.
Are you shooting TIFF or RAW or high quality? The image size has a lot to do with the rate.
Hope this helps :=)

Genver, I use a PANO FZ50...great camera, and am finding no problems transfering images....but I use a card reader!..not a direct connection!...

It also depends on your SD card too...if it is just a basic one....then it will tend to be a tad slow!....the newer cards are more high speed now!...and have quicker transfers!.....

I agree that my transfer rate direct from the FZ50 is a bit slow!

Genver, that lack of punctuation makes my eyes bleed. I agree with Dustickin about the problem. I always use a card reader since the first couple times I tried to transfer images directly from the camera. It took a long time unless I went back to the card reader.

Thank you Mimi,Dunstickin and Regmar for the answers.

Yes Mimi,i shoot JPEG high quality or RAW sometimes and it takes a long time to transfert the photos.
I also tried a 7 Mo/s SD card with the Panasonic camera but it still takes a long time but when using the 7 Mo/s SD card or the Panasonic 20 Mo/s SDHC card with a Canon compact camera i have then the transfert rates are good so that is why i wondered about the Panasonic camera,it seems strange that the transfert rate is weak though,i will see what Panasonic will say about that.

Dunstickin and Regmar,i know that a card reader is fast however i don't have one, thank you again.

Thanks again to three of you for answering and trying to help.

Jerome - you problem is most likely in your computer and not your camera. You said you dont have a card reader. So I must assume you hook directly to the computer by way of USB. Is your computer new enough to be capable of USB2 speed? If not, then you computer is sweating its digital butt to offload the pictures. One sure way to find out is to take your SD card and try to load to a different computer, preferably a newer one. is there a difference? I also own a FZ series camera and have slow downloads on an old computer. I hope I have been of help.

Thank you LoDollar for trying to help and for the information about slow downloads with an old computer. My computer is capable of USB2 speed and it is set to "high speed USB" (you have to do that via the bios when the computer starts) that is the max USB setting and the USB2 controller driver is also installed so i assume it works.

I tried the Panasonic 20 Mo/s SDHC card with a Canon compact camera i have and of course with the same computer and the transfert rate is good so it has something to do with the Panasonic camera otherwise what could it be? it is strange though.

I can try the Panasonic camera on my brother's computer as i think it has a USB2 controller and see if there is a difference,i will report in this topic when done.

Thank you again LoDollar for the help,it is appreciated.

I tried the Panasonic camera on my brother's computer but unfortunately the transfert rate is still weak,i don't know what the problem is but it could be good to have a card reader as it is fast.

Thanks again to the people who answered and tried to help,it is appreciated.

Jerome - well this sure is a head scratcher of a problem. I guess when all reasonable means of explanation has failed, it is time to resort to extreme measures. Find and locate an computer expert, preferably one who will take time to speak to you and seek their wisdom. Most of the time they can be found in a fifth grade classroom, or on a playground in your neighborhood.

Thank you again LoDollar,i will not continue as i am sure the problem is the Panasonic camera and not the computer, you can take a look at Dunstickin's post above,he said that he has the same problem with the transfert rate and he uses a card reader which is faster,Regmar also uses a card reader as he said that it is too slow as well.

I guess that the solution is to use a card reader however i wait for an answer from Panasonic as i contacted them.

Thank you again.
