A recommendation for a movie..."The Bucket List"..gosh that was a great show..Jack Nickelson...anyone got any other movies they would like to recommend?
Hmmm... doesn't that have Morgan Freeman in it too? I'm a big Morgan Freeman fan :) Just got back form The Dark Knight, which was an incredible movie... Another good movie (not sure how old it is) with Morgan Freeman, is Driving Miss Daisy.
Yup, Morgan Freeman and Jack Nickelson...wonderful movie, makes one think about the things we want to do before "we kick the bucket"....I loved Driving Miss Daisy too. I am wondering how the movie with that handsome man from X files is going to be.
I heard lots of BIG things about that handsome man you mentioned, Verena! { Duchovny}:) mmmmmmmm
I plan to watch INTO THE WILD as recommended by my baby brother.
As far as recommending one {current}.i haven't been to a theater in a while though I have watched some hacks on the PC, like FUNNY GAMES{remake} and found it.....unsettling...but kinda good...hmmmm, a fave oldie { kinda old} is HOSTEL. Little gory, but greatly written-though sequals all suck.
Hey there Mister Madman, wat'cha know that I don't know
Tell me some crazy stories, let me know who runs this show
Glassy-eyed and laughing, he turns and walks away
Tell me what made you that way
shiny disc recommendations: Angel-A, can't recommend that movie enough - a little piece of Luc Besson magic and Pan's Labyrinth - but that goes without saying.
Looks like the Dark Knight is set to break Titanic's box office records having shattered all the other records already in its first week. is it really that good or is it regular good with lots of morbid curiosity thrown in for good measure? I'll have to wait a long time to find out as living in the middle of the indian ocean means it wont get here for months and when it does, it will be dubbed into French. horribly.
I just got through watching a fantastic movie called Gone Baby Gone. The best movie I've seen in years, I swear. A thriller, very noir to me, full of twists & turns & just when you think it's over on it goes for another little plot twist. Do yourself a huge favor & see it.
An onldie, but well worth seeing is Miracle Mile with Anthony Edwards (pre-ER, when he still had hair!) No one has ever seen this but it is great. Edwards answers a call at a pay phone, which turns out to be a soldier in a bunker who dialed a wrong number. He was trying to let his parents know we had launched an nuclear attack on the russians and they have launched a retaliatory strike. Crank call? Truth? Watch it and find out!
To answer Phil's question, I thought it was REALLY that good. It has fantastic acting, lots of action, comedy, some romance-- it's just a good movie. I think some people probably did just go to it out of curiosity, or to pay tribute to Heath Ledger, but they probably left thinking "Wow, what a great movie," at least, that's my take on it :)
I also watched Mr. Smith Goes to Washington recently. I think it was made in the 1930's, and it was a really great movie too.
Anyone who might be interested in a most lovely story...having to do with unbelievable music talent ...it's August Breeze!! Just fantastic. A bit unique to start with, better and better as the story goes on.
The Kingdom--intense, but good.
Just saw Dark Knight. Heath Ledger was twisted as the Joker, but the movie was way long, not as much action as I'd like...but Harvey Dent/Two Face, Gordon...good character driven plot.
The last time i went to the movies i saw "The Strangers", I really liked it even though it could have been better, it was filmed 10 miles from my home so i wanted to see the local homes in the movie :-)
That reminds me, if you want to see what I was up against in my formative years, try out "The Ice Storm" (Kevin Kline, Sigourney Weaver, Elijah Wood among others)... it is about, and was filmed in, my old hometown, New Canaan, Connecticut (ack!). Takes place in 1975 during an ice storm that really happened that year. (I was living in Boston at the time but my parents were there)...
i've had some more feedback from friends in the states about dark knight - they concur with Jenn - way too long (winded) but good characters apart from capt. cardboard - the patron saint of tortured souls - obviously. apparently felt the need in the script to spell things out too instead of leaving it to subtlety and interpretation.
Dark Knight IS good...but a 2ish hour movie felt like it was easily 4 hours long!! Also, there is this annoying vocalization that happens...as Wayne he speaks "normally", but as Batman, there is this really deep James Earl Jones thing going on--got old fast. I do have to say that the talk of a posthumous Oscar to Ledger is something I'd support. He was way twisted as Joker. Rather than being almost comical as Jack was, Ledger's Joker was evil for evil's sake--he was truly maniacal!!
Hope to see WANTED before the week is done. Then GET SMART. Anyone seen them, wanna chime in?
Please, even if you don't visit my gallery, check out my "Faves".I've left them intact since day "1", and would like it if every image there got the attention they deserved.
finally got to watch the Dark Knight - not so good at all really. not bad. but not good either. the script writing is extremely convoluted in one respect and awkwardly shallow in others. a few memorable scenes of note but not really sufficient to carry a 150 minute movie. its only 12 minutes longer than Batman Begins but felt a hell of a lot longer which for me - is never a good sign.
Here are two more great movies...The Shellseekers and also one I saw tonight called In America...wow, both of them so good, In America is a true story, very sensitive. Shellseekers is heartwarming for sure. A nice way to spend a couple hours on a quiet night either alone or with someone special. V

The Sentinel with Michael Douglas...good movie.
Robot Chicken Star Wars...damned funny!!
Wanted...great action scenes.
Dark Knight sucked...too long, not enough action or gadgets, writing was not as tight as the first--like the writers weren't sure of what to put in the story...but Heath Ledger as the Joker kicked ass...sinister, wicked...and bittersweet (had he lived, can you imagine what great acting we would have had). Hope he gets a posthumous Oscar. He was the reason I didn't walk out of the theater.
I reckon for anyone who is interested in cars should watch Christine. It is a horror movie and the blood and guts is all left up to your imagination. The movie is based on the book that came from the amazing mind of Stephen King, so it must be good.
