Could someone help me with a colour problem with my Epson Printer?

I am having a major problem with my Epson printer. It's fairly new and have never had a problem with it before. I am making copies of some photos for a friend, graduation photos, she is wearing a purple gown and the photo I print out is doing the gown in blue!
I have gotten new ink cartridges, checked all setting in the printer, the computer, Photoshop and Paint Shop along with the scanner. I cannot seem to be able to change it. Does anyone out there know what else I could try? Please? I need help, I need to get these done right away. Thank you so much.

check your color profile. are you using RGB, Adobe RGB, or perhaps, CYMK? if one profile is being used by the printer, and another by your software, I seem to remember reading that it causes a conflict. If I'm wrong, someone please feel free to correct me.

Please, even if you don't visit my gallery, check out my "Faves".I've left them intact since day "1", and would like it if every image there got the attention they deserved.

yes most likely a profile clash - dont know about paint shop but photoshop gives you the print option to decide whether photoshop or the printer controls what colour management is used.

I'm sorry but I just can't understand what you both are saying. I know absolutely nothing about the colour stuff on these programs.RGB?CYMK?.....profile clash? Can either of you explain a bit more about this? Thank yu ahead of time..V

basically, you should make sure your image is Adobe RGB 1998 profile. to do that, go to the edit Menu in Photoshop and convert to profile selecting the Adobe one.

when you then go the print option it gives you colour management options which are document or proof (pick document) and then colour handling which gives you the choices of printer manages colour, photoshop manages colour or no colour management. the best one to choose is photoshop manages colour. that way you can be sure that the printed document uses the same colour profile.

Have you done a nozzle check, could the printhead need cleaning. Maybe one of your cartridges is blocked? What happens when you print a test page, do all the colours show?
If it is a newer model Epson it will be using Durabright inks - I know from experience on my previous printer , an Epson, that if alternatives are used the colours are not true.

I hope you get it fixed.

Lyn, I did all the checking on the printer, the nozzle, the ink jets themselves, the printhead. I checked the cartridges, each of them. I also did the printout and each colour showed up ok
on the chart...I was using the Epson cartridges, and I have at
times used the other, and they did fine, but this time, I do not have the Epson ones, so I feel it is a setting of some sort. The people at INKPLUS, they are very helpful and have told me there is no difference with the cartridges, I have watched to see, and I'm not positive this is the problem, they have been real fair and honest with me, but yu know how it goes...so I will keep working in a bit longer. The Epson cartridges are DOUBLE the price, but if they others dont do the job then I dont want tht either... I was trying to do what Phil said...but haven't figured it out yet. I found some other colour settings in Photoshop, and am trying that now...so I'll get back to you all..I just gotta get this done...SOON...V

I would try to help Verena, but need to know which editing program you are using... Photoshop or Paint Shop Pro? I just finished looking in Paint Shop Pro 9. Go to File menu > Preferences > Color Management:

check - Color Management
check - Proofing
Be sure that your monitor and printer profiles are set to Match, for Rendering Intent. And that the printer profile is set to sRGB Color Space, as well as Emulated Device Profile is set to Pictures.

I think that should be right. If not, perhaps someone else could add to this information.

If you're using Photoshop instead, I can take a look at those settings.

Hi again Verena - I fired up my Epson C63. In colour Management do you have it set to 'Automatic'. Also, make sure Photo enhancement is turned off.

In Properties try Main/Advanced - Colour adjustment -and slide the colour controls for the coloured inks. In the same place you can also adjust the gamma.
Just beneath that is the Photo Enhance control - normal, hard, vivid, none etc. On the sample picture on mine changing it to vivid increased the purple tones.

The colour printing test page found here http://nemesis.lonestar.org/site/color_test.html may be of some help.

Which program are you printing from ? I get much better results printing from the Windows Photo Printing Wizard than I do from printing directly from PSP. No idea why, the printer settings are the same.

Another thought - try a different type of paper - it can make a huge difference to results, as can using the same paper with different paper types selected in the controls.

I had a similar Epson problem using good quality non-photo paper but it was the reverse - blues printed as purple. I was printing calendars with photos included and fixed it by turning off Photo Enhance.

Tealeaves - thank you for that info - it was very helpful for me -I did not know that could be done in PSP - mine was set to none so I intend to do some experimenting with colour management enabled for my Canon printer:)

You're quite welcome, Lyn :)

Oh, and Verena, please let us know how your printing is coming along.

sRGB is for screen representations only and a lot of its gamut is unprintable. for prints you should always use Adobe RGB which has a gamut clipped much closer to CMYK and therefore has a better chance of accurate reproduction or conversion.

Thank you for that correction, Phil. It was the only choice I was given in checking color management in PSP. I'm assuming it is because it is a low end printer.

My monitor profile and printer profile (sRGB - only option) are linked to a rendering intent of "match". (other options are pictures, proof, and graphics)

The separate emulated device profile (Adobe RGB 1998) is set to a rendering intent of "pictures". (other options are proof, graphics, match).

I'm not sure the options I have, that I can do any better.

As for Photoshop, color settings are much more involved. I am still checking them out.

Me thinks I should refrain from printing anything until I obtain a new printer.

Verena - I do hope the information I provided did not cause you any grief or an unnecessary waste of ink :(
