Lack of advanced search function holding Caedes back?

I would like state my appreciation at the amazing selection of quality images here! I'm in awe of some of the talent on display and thankful that caedes provides this site.

However (you knew this was coming), I think the site is suffering from the fact that it doesn't have a better search function. I'm sure this isn't the first time it's been brought up, but it's still an issue. While I do enjoy browsing around on occassion, there are certainly times when myself or others want to search for a particular artist or image size. If you're looking for something specific and not getting good results, you'll likely head somewhere else.

On a website with such a simple and effective layout the current search function is hard to find and ineffective. I think it would be perfect if we had a keyword box and various other drop-down menus to select other criteria--if you've ever used Newegg.com, I use their advanced search function as a model.

Ok, I'm sorry this was such a long rant. You can tell it's been building up for a while. Only wish I was a programmer so I could help out more. Thanks.

Oh man, I was afraid of this. =) You are essentially describing the search tool that I wrote for the Praetori a few years ago. It is pretty flexible and lets you search on a lot of fields, but it is also very slow and could probably take down the entire site. This is the only reason that I haven't opened it up for wider use. I will give some thought as to what I would need to do to make it safe for general consumption. Thanks for the suggestion.

I don't know if there are any other good options out there. I've seen many places making use of the google to create a custom search for their site. Not sure if it's as effective as what you currently have, but may be less taxing if that's your main concern. Again, wish I had more to contribute, as I am not trying to come across as a whiner!

Whether or not you feel that this sort of feature is necessary, I do appreciate you taking the time to reply. Oh, and I love the "welcome" note in your html script!

I think that the best way would be for me to customize and optimize the existing "super-fancy gallery search" (as the mod team calls it) so that everyone can use it. I am going to move this topic to the Suggestions forum.

I still think a b/w search parameter is sorely needed...

not like you asked :P

Please, even if you don't visit my gallery, check out my "Faves".I've left them intact since day "1", and would like it if every image there got the attention they deserved.
