A weird problem on the site

I have noticed a weird problem on the site since a few days,it happens from time to time.

Normally when you move the mouse pointer on a link then a hand appears but i have noticed that the hand takes about 3 or 4 seconds to appear and i have also noticed the same problem with the scroll bar on the right,it also takes 3 or 4 seconds before being able to scroll,it also happens from time to time.

I have never seen such a problem on the site before and i have not seen this problem on other sites,i have no idea what the problem could be? does anyone else run into the same problem? for information,i use Firefox 3.0.1,thank you.

I have had some very weird problems with this site, that I don't experience on other sites. The biggest problem being that it is slow. Sometimes it takes forever for a PM or comment to be sent, or a picture to open. I have discovered by corresponding with other members, that I am not alone in this. It is not a continuous problem but happens from time to time when other websites work OK. I have learned to just live with it.

Hi Jerome
I been using Mozilla FireFox for a very long time now, & love it. Yes there are always a few very minor practical problems compared to Internet Explorer but I have not ever encountered the problem you've described.

I suggest you use Internet Explorer for a while to see if you still have the same problems, the result may help you pinpoint the trouble.

I can echo Jimbob's statement, that I find the site slow to respond sometimes and also sending messages as I sometimes press it twice thinking I didnt do it properly, then I get a message saying to try and wait 20 seconds before sending again! But I have to admit it doesnt happen very often really. So sorry Jerome cant help with this one really.

Thank you for the input,Jim and Phil.My purpose was to point out this issue and i also wanted to know if someone else runs into this issue.

Jim,i see what you mean,i also run into the same slowness issue from time to time but i run into another issue as well,it is what i talked about earlier and i have never seen this kind of issue before,it is weird and it occurs without any particular reason.

Phil,i have also been using Firefox for a long time but have never had any problems on Caedes except of course the slowness issue from time to time.Thank you for the advices though.

Edit: Thank you also for the input,Ann.I have just seen your post and as i said above,i have the same slowness issue from time to time but i run into another issue as well.

I use IE and sometimes Firefox and I haven't noticed this happening as you described. There have been issues with slow loading on Caedes before, but that hasn't been a problem in a long while. Could it be a problem with your server, Jerome. Maybe they might have an answer for you. I am sorry that I couldn't be of more help. Maybe one of us will start having this problem too. I don't know.

Thank you for the input,Cindy.Unfortunately,it is a weird issue and it is not easy to know what the problem could be? i thought perhaps someone else would run into the same issue but apparently no one seems to have this problem, however, perhaps someone else who runs into the same issue will see this topic and will post, who knows?

Thank you again Sandi.Unfortunately my ISP does not have a good tech support so that is why i do not care to check with it for help, the prices are good but not the tech support, other people already complained about that.Of course there are other ISP's that have a better tech support but it is more expensive.Overall,i do not have a bad internet connection.

Edit: Thank you also for the input,Steve.

I do sometimes have problems with the adverts on the site, they cause me to have a drop down menu at the top asking me to install active x controls and really really slow the site down for me. Its only on IE which I use most, and as its only some adverts I dont mind it really. I use Firefox if I really have to, but dont like its layout... but having said that I have only just stopped using an abacus and quil lol. I also have to say that my computer is playing up recently ( think I need a memory upgrade) and everything feels as though it takes a day to load. Hope you gt your problem sorted out Jerome. x

I have not had that problem either Jerome. I use IE and have Vista on my computer now since the crash of my old computer. This site hangs up sometimes and is slow to respond. I really think that is probably the times when the site is very busy which slows the server down. The problem you are having sounds like some sort of code conflict that could come from a virus, worm or perhaps just a site scripting thing. Since it does clear up I think it has to do with the site scripting as a virus or worm would usually get worse. In my experience anyhow.

Hello Jerome,
I am also using Firefox 3.0.1. and have no such problem. It could be a problem caused by one of your extensions (add ons). Suggest following :
Store all your current settings using Mozbackup. It is easy to use and can be downloaded under www.mozbackup.org. Uninstall then your Firefox. Remove all firefox profiles etc. under "User" in the windows explorer. (remove all traces of firefox - use the search option to find them if necessary). Install Firefox again without the old profile. Check if caedes website causes the problem again. It should not. Now, it is better to install your add ons one by one and test with caedes after each installation instead of copying them all back on with Mozbackup. Hope this works. Have a nice day. - Raj

Thank you again for the suggestion.

I switched from Safari to Firefox because of a severe slowness problem, which was driving me crazy, and Firefox is much faster. A strange problem I've noticed is that every night at between 3 and about 3:30 AM it becomes impossible to send or receive anything on Caedes... Have no idea why... I just go read my e-mail till it comes back in a few minutes...

Hi Jerome.. I too use firefox and have not had this problem, as it has said above I would clear out the cookies and history that will probably be the problem maybe check how much free space you have on your hard drive too sometimes that will make it do what it is doing. Best of luck I hope your problem is solved soon.

Jerome, I use Netscape Navigator 9.0.0.6 (Firefox engine, I believe) and Safari (on my Mac). With both the browsers, at times, I notice an extremely slow connection, the problem evidently being on Caedes end not mine. However, in neither of the browsers I've ever had the problem you mention (the lag after moving the cursor on a hyperlink, etc.). Unfortunately, my computer knowledge is next to zilch! I better refrain from giving you any advice! Having said that, the advice given by Ramad above seems to be a very logical one to me. Good luck!

Hi Jerome, just one more suggestion : Re. cookies - under settings change cookies settings to : "keep cookies until firefox is closed". Then the cookies are no longer retained once you go off-line.

Jerome, Mrs Braces was wondering if your problem could be due to Spyware. Do you scan for Spyware using something like Spybot?

In the time frame that solita17 mentioned when the site gets very slow or seems to stop is when the back-up is being done. It only lasts that short period.
Hope this helps! :=)

Hey Jerome,

I believe Mimi, in her above post, has hit the proverbial nail on the head ... with regards to the slow response that some have experienced from time to time.

Server maintenance is usually ... usually, conducted in the early morning hours. This maintenance is performed during 'off peak' hours, for lack of a better term, so that the least amount of people or visitors will be affected.

Perhaps, if you noted the times when this happened ... the root cause could be ascertained a bit better.

Clearing out your temporary internet files is a good thing to do on your end. I typically do this after each browsing session.

Checking the settings for your browser, to see if the page(s) you visit are automatically 'refreshed' ... is another possibility.

I think i found the culprit,it is an Intel ad on the site, this ad is blue and a sandglass can be seen on it too.

Each time this ad appears then the problem occurs,if i return to a previous page and if the previous page does not have this Intel ad then there is no problem but if i go again to the page that has this Intel ad then the problem starts again,it is weird,i do not know why an ad causes this kind of problem.

Hi Jerome. I have been away for 10 days so just seen your message. I occasionally have problems with slowness, but most of the time everything works fine. I worked out a while back that a backup must be done at precisely 0810 UK time every day (takes about 10-15 mins and everything stalls) as I am always trying to catch up at this time before I go to work grrrrrrrr! lol! I have to try and open quite a few windows before it goes into stall mode!! I know I am late if I miss my timeslot! ;) haha! Sorry otherwise I cannot help.
