Trivial things that tickle your fancy...

Ok – so as to act as an antithesis for the long running and near legendary whinge fest that is, Trivial things that wind you up, here’s a new take for you on the format, this time around with stupid little things that amuse or intrigue you in a good way.

I’ll start the ball rolling with....

#1 Giant Bamboo. It sits there doing nothing for 90% of the time, but give it some heat and lots of water – preferably rain water – and it just explodes into life. It grows that fast you can actually hear it growing. It’s strong enough to overpower or push aside any vegetation in its way and thinks nothing of finding its way even through man-made obstacles like concrete. Bizarre and inspiring stuff.

#2 How people pull together in a crisis and show you their very best side. Never ceases to amaze at the willingness and generosity of others to help even when they are barely in a position to do so themselves.

#3 How people fall apart when they shift out of their comfort zone but still try to blag their way through to daylight. A bit funny. A bit tragic. All at the same time.

#4 Jade Goody getting her comeuppance.

#5 Introducing people to new music they’ve never heard of before that sends shock waves of pleasure through their brain.

#6 Discovering that using dissolvable high strength generic paracetamol tablets has just as profound an effect as using more expensive poisons for ridding your house of undesirable rodents.

Christmas in September!!!

Finding an unopened Christmas card from 3 years ago with $50 in it & I don't even associate with this person anymore. Well $50 doesn't go very far nowadays, but hey, it filled up my gas tank.

The question is do I add the person to my holiday list again???

Thought about it, and realized I'm losing perspective of what is trivial and what is not. Trivial things can have a knock-on effect (or are important to one person if not to everybody else), whereas important things are as nothing in the great scheme of things. But this is my list today:

(1) Juries coming back to Eurovision to balance the popular vote (also made me think about the c-index) :P

(2) My cats behaving like the grumpy teenagers they are. Stamping about and glowering at us with hot green eyes when we haven't done anything... pardon us for breathing. :-) It makes me smile.

(3) Cool lush rainy weather. Everybody's gone home and the cats are bringing in fewer dead voles. Maybe that's why they're in a mood.

(4) Cucumber and tomato sandwiches, and Port Salut cheese.

(5) Forrest Gump.

Halloween at the campgrounds where we go camping. In early October hey do an early Halloween & all the camp sites decorate their sites & their campers & tents, & the campgrounds close to traffic & cars during Trick or Treat & there's hundreds of kids trick or treating. They come from all around too.... not just the campers.

It's fantastic & fun & even the adults dress up ! I went as a funky witch last year.... purple feather boa & all. I have a white Standard Poodle & I swear one of these years I'm dressing her in a poodle skirt & doggie saddle shoes & white socks & taking her too !

That's gross...

next time, put them on a plate if you wouldn't mind...?

Trivial thing that tickles my fancy... when someone actually replies to a common courtesy (holding a door open, allowing entry into a traffic lane, etc) with a smile and or a thank you.

Sad, but it is something of a rarity these days.

My wife and I are providing a computer and software for a profoundy (physically) handicapped wheelchair-bound young guy who's been dropped by the county for financial aid. When purchasing a mouse emulator to interface his wheelchair head control with the PC, the provider gave me dealer pricing (less than half price). He then told me that he'd just drop it in the mail and I could pay him anytime. I was nearly in tears. That's how things used to be done...

1.) Running up behind players in Socom: Confrontation and fragging them with a knife attack.

2.) Watching my little Calico cat whos the runt of the litter, and maybe 7-9lbs chase a full grown Woodchuck around the yard.

3.) The personalities of cats and dogs. My family has 8 cats and not one of them is like the others.

Only to look at that area that caused their mishap afterwards ... rather accusatorily.

Speaking of cats, watching my mom's cat try to get on the treadmill while it's running.
Then if she does manage to get all four feet on, she pauses to enjoy her success, and looks curiously at the side rails moving past her . . .

My little seven year old grandson told me about some kids at his school thinking grandparents shouldn't do certain things because they are either too old or whatever. So my sweet little grandson says to them " Well, MY Grammie is cool!! She loves motorcycles and hot cars!" And then the kids thought he had a crazy grandma...he again replies, Noooooooooo she is soooo COOL!!!

Yup, grandkids are the ones who are kewl and sweet. And way better than any Master card...or even a greeting card. Verena

Reminds me of seeing a reality show on TV where a couple of youths said that older people shouldn't go around with younger people or join in their pursuits, as that was creepy. Older people should stay at home and do jigsaw puzzles. I have to say everybody on the TV who heard them say that, old or young, looked disgusted. There are some things young people do that an older person can't be bothered with now, but that's usually through reason and experience rather than lack of coolness...

Sorry, this rant should probably have been on the 'Trival things that wind me up' thread!

Turning this into a 'trival things that tickle my fancy' comment: the fact that so many of the people who overheard those two boys disagreed with them.
