We have added a new gallery for Action or Motion images - such as sports shots in mid-movement. Images that fall into this criteria will be moved in the following days. Any other image types (other than sports) that you feel could fall into this category, please list here. Please keep in mind the existing galleries.

Trouble is now, that the more you diversify the galleries the more a single image can apply to more than one gallery. = confusion all round. Motion, say a bird in flight. It can go in the motion gallery or in the photography-birds gallery. It all starts getting a little to messy.
I think it also comes down to what Caedes.net is about. Is it primarily an upload site for aspiring artists?(in which case less galleries would be preferred, i think). Or is it a download site, mainly for people who want a decent wallpaper on their desktop.

Mmmh... Don't agree, Alex.

'Action' or 'Motion' gives an idea of what the visitor will discover in the gallery.
If you are a new visitor or a new member and you like birds, you open the 'Photography' gallery, see 'Birds' and open 'Birds'.
If you like sports, you open the 'Photography' gallery, see 'Action' and open 'Action'. You could say: Why not a 'Sports' gallery? Because we want to put there more than typically 'Sports' photos...
We, Mods, have more difficulties with some photos like a canoe on the see at sunset! Is it a 'Action', 'Water' or 'Sunset' photo??? Sometimes, we correct the choice of the Author by considering the principal subject of the picture.

I think the categories are more set up for people looking for or downloading images Alex. If you notice, most of the older members or regular members pretty much stick to the new images gallery and ignore its categorization. While the masses typically come and browse the permanent galleries for the best desktops they can find on the site, and this is where the categorizing becomes necessary.

Does this include photos taken with a shaky hand? ;o-

I have moved several 'moving water' photos -- actually manipulations by an extended open shutter to create an effect of motion of water through rocks or over waterfalls -- into the new gallery. What do you think, should these images actually remain in the water gallery? Here.

Although fully agree that these images represent motion, I believe they should remain in the water gallery. When a user looks in the water gallery they are looking for pretty images of lakes, oceans, rivers, and the most popular waterfalls. I dont think people are going to look for these waterfalls or moving rivers by browsing to the action gallery. Besides I just think its more aesthetic to see these images sorrounded by other beautiful images of water and nature, rather than photos of sports and such.

I think anything beyond sports is confusing.

ya stick to sports, action implies that it doesnt just have to be "team" sports as such, but anything involving nature, even two moose locking horns ;) would still belong in another gallery

I could see moving my time lapse shots to the new gallery, (Days Go By...) and (Life in the Fast Lane). Any thoughts?

Well I moved them over, I agree it's probably a better gallery for them than the city gallery. It's funny I remember when I took my first time lapse shot I searched all over caedes and couldn't find one so I thought I had posted the first. I just noticed that (Bus Pass) shot that has been there since before I even joined :). This is the first time I have ever come across it, thanks to the new gallery. I think it's a pretty good shot too.

Also, I must say that the new gallery is very stimulating to me and I think it was a great addition. There were a lot of very appropriate pics around to be added. Thanks go to the mods for featuring this collection of unique images.
