i've never followed one of my shots through votes and scores but on this one (sunrise kauai) decided to. actually i just started at 8:28 pm last night (az time). at that time it had 13 votes and a score of 89. at 11:57 pm it had 16 votes and a score of 89. at 8:00am this morning it had 16 votes and a score of 89. at 10:24 am it had 16 votes and a score of 88. i don't know where it will go from here and frankly this isn't about that. this isn't a complaint, i'm just curious to know how one thinks that with no change in votes there is a change in score. i guess you'd call it a technical question. thanks

Simple answer Jeenie - the score isn't recalculated with every vote, it's recalculated on a schedule, but every vote registers as having occurred right away. So the votes show up immediately, but the recalculation happens and shows up later.

This of course is due to all votes needing to be processed through a complicated algorithm just to make us all nuts. *caedes is actually doing an experiment to see how long it will take before someone cracks and ends up running into the padded walls. *wink*

Lol, seriously though, I know it's been explained a million times but I still don't understand exactly how the voting and c-index works. I mean, is it as simple as working out an average?

e.g. If you get two votes of 2 and eight votes of 5 then your average is 4.4 and your c-index is 44 or is there more fiddling with the numbers than that?

Tell me if I haven't made sense here and I'll try again.

Not a simple average or median, Kelcey.

The C-Index is derived from a weighted formula of sorts, that also adjusts for any aberrant scores handed out in the voting booth.

If you wish ... familiarize yourself with the concept of a Bell Curve.

In short, and with reference to the law of numbers and/or expected 'normal behaviour' ... an image's scoring should approximate that of a bell curve.

Wherein, the spectrum of scores received is ... more or less ... representative of that of a Gaussian Probability Distribution.
