Squares in a photo?

I have had it brought to my attention that my latest upload has some odd square pattern in it. A bit embarressed to admit I missed it?..I have copied the link to the picture and sure would appreciate knowing what it is and how I can fix it. I asked on the image page but no response so thought I would try here. I will leave it for a few days more for a response then will remove and fix if possible.
Thanks
Rick

Hi Rick. It's easier to see your image if you, ahem, "embed HTML" in your post. You can post the URL as a link by typing a less-than-symbol followed by "a href=" and a double-quote, then the text of the URL follwed by another double-quote and a greater-than-symbol. Next you type the words that you want to appear, such as "my latest upload", then a less-than-symbol, a "/a" and a greater-than-symbol. The result will look like this: my latest upload

I hope this helps you to put links in your posts.

I looked for the mentioned squares when I first saw this and commented on it. I could not see them then and after having another look I still can not see them.
Perhapd different monitors give differing results.
Perhaps I need new glasses.

rick, try this:

<@ href="URL">DESCRIPTION</@>

Copy that, leave the quote marks where they are, and replace the "@"s with "a"s. Then replace the capital letter words with the things they are.

If I was posting a link to this thread it would look like this (without the "@"s replaced with "a"s cuz otherwise all you would see is the link):

<@ href="http://www.caedes.net/Zephir.cgi?lib=Board::Topic&id=2429768">Squares Thread</@>

P.S. You can send yourself a PM (betcha didn't know that) so if you want to practice, just send yourself links in pm's. 8•)

OK, since no one has said this, I get the honor of telling you that this shot is simply gorgeous. It's the light, the light that renders a prosaic construction sight into a scene of creation and birth. Remarkable. Simply remarkable.

I don't see the square pattern that you speak of either, Rick. Absolutely gorgeous capture though!

Hmm. having looked closely there is a patterning of the sky, more noticeable when I look at an overlarge image. At my normal screen res it can be seen now I am looking for it. It seems to be an aberration of some sort perhaps due to compression on download. However, I stick by my first comment about the picture.

Don't take any notice of my comments. I post pictures that get a CI of 0! (Well almost) Crysophilax's Gallery and Web Page

I see the squares (as described) as well in the sky when I enlarge the image....about 200%! When viewed at normal resolution, I now am also able to view the pattern in the sky. I am at a loss as to what it is....the image still stands alone as beautiful!

I agree with everyone that it's an outstanding picture...I do see the square pattern as well. To me, it looks almost like its on canvas or some kind of other material. I know there are filters to recreate the texture, but I doubt you would accidentally do that without knowing. Not sure why it happened, but it really doesn't detract from the shot in my opinion.

Mystery - Why Lucky people are Lucky. Rick not only takes a good picture he also got squares in his picture - Lucky Guy. Yes they really are there. Lucky for him, we know what they are, Lucky for him we know what caused it. This is a very rare picture, because of the squares, Lucky Rick. All the rest of you, are not so lucky, you have to return to this post tomorrow to find out what they are.

The mystery is solved thanks to Jerry (oksyl)!!
Much gratitude is extended to you. I post his findings
for your edification.
And please "Don't try this at home":)

Greetings Rick:
Thank You for sending the picture I requested. It took only about 2 sec to view and get the results I needed to verify my theory, now a fact. I am now 100% sure of the cause of your mystery squares.
Let me start off by congratulating you on taking such a good picture. Let me also continue by saying Rick you are a Lucky Guy! you are lucky you did not burn out the image sensor in your camera. You are lucky your camera still works, it does have a small amount of camera noise, which can be corrected. Ill get to the origin of your squares in just a minute, but I need to set this up so you can follow what exactly happened. When you took this picture, the Sun was directly in your line of view. That means the full force of the sun was shining onto your image sensor. The image sensor is about the size of your little fingernail. If you were to take a powerful magnifying to view it, you would see many hundreds of thousands of tiny squares that each make up a pixel. Each square creates a voltage based on the strength of the light shining on it, and the value of the voltage represents a color. When you pressed the shutter button on your camera, the angle of your camera captured the light in such a way that it bounced off the image sensor and created a reflection on the back of the lens. Basically what happened is that the image sensor captured an image of itself. The same thing happens to windows at night. When the light glares on a window, it causes it to reflect like a mirror. You most likely can not do this again in a hundred years of trying. Your cameras image sensor took a picture of itself, imagine that!
Rick, the chances of this happening are RARE! RARE! RARE! you took a photo, the photo came out, and you also captured a reflection of your own cameras image sensor in almost a good focus. WOW! The possibility of placing the camera in such an angle and having the light create a reflection onto the lens is non-calculateable.
This same phenomena can be duplicated by your eye Doctor. Next time you have an eye exam, have the Doctor, shine a light into the back of your eye. It will cause a reflection to be projected onto the photo-optic nerve and like magic you can see very clearly the inside of your own eye.
I had some fun on CAEDES, and posted a little note on the Discussion forum. I told all readers you were lucky to get a good photo. They were outa luck, and would have to wait till tomorrow night to hear the cause of your squares. I would be pleased if you post the answer to your square mystery.
I hope I have answered your question clearly. Thank You for giving me the opportunity to solve this mystery.
