I'd like to start a new thread on what each of us considers our most favorite places, peaceful, beautiful places anywhere in the
world. A place that's special just to us and one we'd like to share with others. It's a way to get to know our Earth better, and
if possible we might be able to visit there one day. Please join all of us in enjoying a favorite spot somewhere special to us. Thank you so much......and have fun...Verena
I'll start...my favorite place close to home is Ricketts Glen State Park in Pennsylvania. Tons of waterfalls, hiking trails...just a great place to go and camp.
My favorite place I've been away from home would have to be Dominica...it truly is the "Nature Island of the Caribbean" as they love to claim. It had rainforests, 365 rivers...rivers being a loose term so they can claim they have a river for each day of the year ;)...1 of only 2 boiling lakes in the world, hot springs, waterfalls, you name it. It is an impoverished country with little tourism due to the lack of actual beaches travelers to the Caribbean islands look for (its a volcanic island with only rocky beaches)...but well worth the trip.
Those of you who have seen the Pirates of the Caribbean movies already have seen the place! A majority of the movie was filmed there.
For now, I have two favourite places and both are in Scotland. Behind Ben Nevis is a very nice walk with beautiful nature. You can get there by following a road through glenn Nevis and stop where the road stops.
The other place is of course Loch Lomond. The favourite wisky of Captain Haddock of the commics of Tin tin and a wonderful place to be. Take a look at my gallery for a few of those. Patti, aka fogz has also some great pictures from there!
I also love the mountains, hills and lochs of Scotland.
I love the area around lake Windamere in the Lake district, England.
Some of my favourite places also include Avebury stone circles, Stone henge and Glastonbury Tor in south England.
And I couldn't forget the huuuuge beaches here in Norfolk with that monumental sky line.
There is a most lovely peaceful town called Bannack, Montana.
It was the first gold rush town during the time of the Big Gold Rush in the West during the time of Lewis and Clark etc...in other words The ORegon Trail. This little town is just so beautiful. The little homes and shops from the early 1850's are mostly intact and are taken care of by the Park Ranger. There is a lovely stream named Grasshopper Creek where people came to pan gold. Now there is a small campground there. Also a bit past there is the little cemetery. The hills there are covered with beautiful smelling sage. Sidewalks are made of wood. There is a story of the mean old Vigilante Sherriff called Henry Plummer. In
fact I am writing my first book on this town and its people, along with drawings and photos. If you ever get a chance to visit here in the Pacific Northwest, this ia a place you'd really want to visit. So quiet, with no tourist traps. Verena
Being a lover of mountains, one of my favourite places is the top of Fuente De in the Picos de Europa, northern Spain. Some of my earlier shots on Caedes are from there. The scenery is utterly stunning and varies tremendously, with enormous natural history interest. Very strongly recommended.
Kevin.
I much appreciate all the comments I receive about my images, but please excuse me if I don't always reply. My interest in Caedes is exceeding my time available!
I guess my 2 favorite places that I have visited has got to be Cloudcroft, New Mexico located within the Lincon National forrest. Such a beautiful and peaceful place to be. Last visit I made, we went from 73 degrees F in the desert to snow on the ground and 31 degrees in Cloudcroft.
The second place has got to be Denmark.....pick a place....The entire country is beautiful and historic. Loved the north shore to the viking graves. Just my little visits at a time in my life when it was possible.
My favourite place has to be the English lakes,Closely followed by the Northumberland coast Holy Island and all those castles with miles of unspoilt beaches..
Another grand place is at Jedidiah Smith Redwood Forest. IT's just across the border from Southern Oregon into Callie. THe scent of the freshness of those trees, OMG !! There are trees laying down that are so huge, and hundreds of ferns growing on top of them. Everyone should go there at least once in their lifetime. It's totally breathtaking, or rather breathgiving! V
One of my favorite places on earth is Bluebell Heaven, but it's only around for 2 weeks every year right here in Cedar Falls, Iowa. Another amazing place - the San Juan Islands in Washington! I couldn't believe how beautiful it was there and seeing the orca whales was a big bonus.

Oh I agree with the San Juan Islands.! It's almost a secret place I think:) But so worth going to. In fact, near there is a town called Port Townshend, it was where "An Officer and a Gentleman" was filmed. It's a most beautiful place to wander thru.
One of my favorite places is St Eustatius, (better known as Statia) in the Netherlands Antilles. My husband and I honeymooned there and went back several more times. Just a totally laid back place with nothing to do but relax and enjoy. Good people, good food and fabulous sunsets!
I have so many favourite places, it is hard to choose one. Of the places I have visited these rate amongst the most beautiful and atmospheric places:
. Lake Louise and Lake Moraine in the Rocky Mountains Canada
. Montmatre in Paris which is an area where local artists gather and there are small romantic restaurants and the Sacré-Coeur with views over Paris - just love it!
. Scotland - Loch Lomond and the beautiful scenery of the Trossachs.
. Salzburg in Austria and the Wolfgangsee lake - incredibly beautiful scenery.
. The Lake District UK, especially Ullwater - stunning scenery
....and last but not least Derbyshire lol! ... of course, as you might have guessed from my gallery ;)
..thanking you in advance for your comments. Please know that all your comments are appreciated....." Live well, love much, laugh often!" .... mygallery
OF course I have to mention the wonderful beaches at the Oregon Coast. There is something so special about the Pacific Ocean. Pacific means calm, and most of the time it is calm, but when the storms rise, the turbulance is even beautiful. Especially if you are sitting in a beach house, warm and toasty watching the surf rise and fall. I drive over to the beach often, just for the day. Just to sit and ponder on the sea and smell the air deeply, feeling it fill my lungs. Feeling the sand between my toes, no cement!! It's pretty nice. There are lighthouses all along the coast, and special spots that would take me a long time to tell about. But even a few hours at the Ocean is fantastic.
