Hello all,

We are expecting a newborn around the end of January this year. Was wondering which camera you all would recommend for some nice baby pictures. I know it needs to have fast shutter speed or shutter lag i should say. I have the Panasonic Fz8 right now. But i just cant get the hang of it. I was looking at a smaller cannon...Maybe the 590 or 1100. What do you guys think? Or do you think the panasonic is a good choice...

I like my camera now, i just cant get the setting right on it.

Thanks for the help

probably best getting one of the new fangled face detection jobbies - sorry face detection 2 now - if you are wanting to focus on the bambino which should make things simple enough. most cameras either have adjustable speeds or scene modes which you can select for fast moving subject matter.

If you are looking to stay in a tighter budget the Canon SD1100 IS has face detection, optical image stabilization and 8 MP is pretty nice in a P&S. We have an earlier SD model and it has been great. They take video too of course. You can get refurbs for about 130 USD online too.

point and shoots will have flahs units that only point forward. i couldnt think of anything worse than having a flash shoved in my face all day!! thats why with my 8 week old daughter, i use my dslr with a flash unit that can be bounced. in my opinion, it creates a far more natural look to the photos.you could pick up a cheap dslr and cheap flash, and use it as an investment to document your childs life...d40 with kit lens, and an sb50dx flash unit( i picked my 50dx up for 60 pounds)? i know also that canon does powershots which have hotshoes, but im no canon expert. hope this helps...gareth
