The only thing I could think of is that people might think it's just a lucky snapshot...which it clearly isn't...I vote low. Of course there's always luck involved with shooting wildlife, but luck only brings you so far. The composition is great and I really like the soft feel to it...I wouldn't worry about the number ;)

Might it be because you have posted several of these sealion cub shots and there is only so much cuteness people can take? Or, perhaps jealousy has set in. Or you are subject of a concerted anti fur campaign who don't understand that shooting wildlife in our case doesn't mean killing things. Does it matter. It is still a good picture, although not one of your best, and perhaps that is the real reason. You consistently post such good pictures people come to expect a lot. Do what I do, post rubbish in between the odd good shot and people are much more appreciative. In the end the CI doesn't matter one way or the other. Have a G&T, that's what I do.

Don't take any notice of my comments. I post pictures that get a CI of 0! (Well almost) Crysophilax's Gallery and Web Page

as chris pointed out Jan - it may simply be a case of viewer apathy - especially for instance if more than one of these shots appeared in the same VB session.

Pictures often don't show how much detail they have when folk are viewing a smaller size (such as in a voting booth). Or they look nice and smooth and you give them a high mark, and they turn out to be grainy... but that definitely wasn't the case with your seal. More likely people didn't see the detail of it. I take the c-index with a grain or three. ;-)

eh? indeed !

I see it has gone up to 35. I think the seal is the only one smiling.
I can see every grain of sand and every hair (fur) and as for the expression and composition - imho it is a great photo.
Its in my faves and only the great go there :)
As for the reason - I have no clue, and agree with Toots - take it with a grain or three of sand or salt or whatever,or something in a glass.

I honestly think that most people voting in the booths just do it quick and easy and vote good if they like it and vote bad if they don't.

I don't pay attention anymore to the votes I get on my artwork, because I don't think it's really the true vote of being artistic.

Example, for those who don't like Abstract Art always seem to vote it low, where someone who likes it will vote it high.

All art is, is a matter of likes and dislikes and this entire voting system is silly and to me really means nothing.

If I were you, I wouldn't pay any attention to it and just continue posting your art. I thought it was good and worth posting. I personally liked it.

Keep up the good work and don't let the voting system on this site get you down. I just don't think people really take the time to vote artistically.
