Moving Water

Awhile back, I ran across a website that allowed you to put "moving water" in one of your OWN Images. It was so cool! I made a couple with some of my Terragen landscapes, and then....somehow have completely lost the website Link!!

Has anyone seen this site? If so, would ya please post it here, I've got a couple Images I'd like to play with on it.

Thanks much!

I have never tried this site nor the software... but these did come up in Google...

Create Moving Water in your photo with water at Web Design Library link using PS, PSP9, or others with a need for other things.... check it out for all the info. :o).

Then there is Rosie's Tutorials link copyrighted... but you are free to make your own personal copies of her tutorials... read her copyright statement to be sure I interpreted it correctly.

And a third option is this Download.com link. Browse through their proggies. I searched in their engine using Animated Water & Windows. If you happen to be Mac, just make the obvious change. :o)

This is my last... Softsea.com link with Nature Illusion Studio trialware or $35.

I hope this helps some. :o)

Thanks for the comeback. I came up with some of those on my search too, but not the tutorials! I'll have to give those a try.

I wase't actually looking for software. About a year ago, I just stumbled across a site that let you upload a picture, apply a few mouse clicks and Presto! Animated water, just like the one in the frog picture! Then Just save it on your computer as a .gif. Again, Thanks for the info and the response. If I DO stumble across it again, I'll be sure to post it here!

I'll keep on searching on occasion as well. The closest I found to what you described was a site where you send a photo of yourself and they put you in a picture with moving water and have it reflected in the water. I knew that what I posted wasn't exactly what you wanted... but figured something was better than nothing. And I figured the tutorials would be of interest. Both of the first two links offer those. :o)

I just tried that site (watereffect.net) with mixed success. It took my upload... did the water movement thing to it, gave me the code to put in, and showed me a little example of my pic with moving water... allowed me to give them my e-mail addie and then told me I was not logged-in! So I expect I don't get my pic e-mailed to me. I did copy my tiny example. :o(

So glad it was the right site. When your photo has had the water effect added, all you have to do is right click on it and select "Save Image As" to download it to your computer (It might say something different if you are using Internet Explorer or another browser, I use Firefox). No need to register or have it sent to an email address.

Amie... I did save the image just the way you say... but I was hoping that I would get my size back thru' e-mail... rather than the 300x348 size that was on the screen. Guess I'll probably never see a 1680x1050 with animated water. :o)

And Greg... glad Amie helped you find the site for which you were searching. :o)

One of the Great users on our Great Caedes Board, a Gentleman with the Handle of Con, from BC, sent me a PM telling me about a really cool Free "Water animation" Program. "SqurlzReflect". http://www.xiberpix.net/

What makes this program so cool and so different from the Reflet program is the fact that you can define the areas of water and where you want it in the Image!! THAT is really an awsome feature! Lot of different effects you can add to the water, and....you can even add animated Rain and Snow, and "Ripple pools" to the water!! I applied it to one of my 1280 X 768 Images, and the result was a 6.7 Meg Gif. But let me tell ya....It's looks Serious COOL as desktop wallpaper!! AND, I was surprised, it didn't effect the resourses at all!!
Thanks AGAIN Con!!! Extremely neat program! There are also a couple other neat Free programs on this site some of you may find a use for. Just wish I could show ya the Image!!

Give it Try. I'd like to hear YOUR comments!

Greg! Please... but thanks! Remember... I said I knew nothing about this... never even had an interest in it (but now I do because of you.) :o) I just searched the 'net (since you had said you lost a link) and stumbled onto that site. And seeing as the water reflection interest on your part was well known by some... I figured that people (your friends) would pay attention to your evaluation much more than mine. One thing I do know about the Sqirlz program is that if you save your pic as a jpg you will get multiple images saved, I guess to give you the choice of which static wave image you prefer. I hope Sqirlz allows you to load its Gif image so you can save it as a jpg and give us a peek. I realize it's not the same as the Gif but sometimes a picture can be better than imagination! :o) SqirlzReflect freeware link!

Very nicely done, Greg! I can see you got into the customized wave effect rather than the basic waves.

After my wife saw your two pics, she wanted me to do the same to one of mine... maybe, one day! It's busy time for me right now. Gonna be gone from home for a month or so in a couple weeks. I'll be having my mini-LT with me so I'll still be visiting Caedes. :o)

Ran into a little "Glitch" today. NOT with this program though....with "Windows" of course.

Seems XP allows .gif's to be loaded as screen Wallpaper just fine. VISTA...that piece of crap....don't. It loads the .gif as a "static" Image, with no animation.

Con might have found a workaround...but we're still talkin bout it. Sure hope he's right!! I got a Lady that dearely wants one of her images, with animated water as her desktop. She's runnin Vista though....and the .gif file won't work.....

"Suggestions"? Comments??

If you want to Try using an animated gif as your wallpaper on vista...just go to my website, right click on the Image on the front page, and "Save". Then, try to load it as your wallpaper on Vista....or XP. I'd like to hear from Vista users on this...if anybody's got the time.

Suggestion: Do what Microsoft just did with Vista and DITCH IT.

Actually, that's a serious suggestion. Either revert to XP or go up.

Let's not slide into an MS or Vista thread here... but!! The real problem is not Greg & Vista... it is other people & Vista. They want what XP users have. The negative reaction to Vista is to not bother with Win7... the (financial) negative in switching back to XP is that MS will stop supporting it one day soon! I think I know what the problem with Vista and animated BG is... when I searched for Vista animated water last night, I found a program that claimed to work with about 20 different versions of Vista while Sqirly only claims to work with Vista! I also know that Vista BG Images contain special code to make them display in a superior fashion... and I feel that this is the real problem with animated BGs. While Sqirly does allow you to have absolute control of exactly where the water effect will be placed... it does degrade the image somewhat. Vista probably can't handle that degradation... so it doesn't give you the option of accepting less to have more! :o) Like I told Greg... it is probably just a matter of patience... waiting until we find a proggie that works in various versions of Vista! Patience usually works! If not... then you go to a computer store armed with an animated image and have it displayed on a Win7 machine. If it works... switch. If it doesn't... more patience is required! :o)

Note: Cat's up is a link to get Windows 7! :o))

I just talked to a friend of mine and he said that you COULD use Animated Gifs as Wallpaper on Vista.

Seems, with XP, when you load an animated Gif as wallpaper, XP automatically turns ON "html Content". Not So in Vista. He said it has to be manually turned on in Vista. They supposidly made it a "manual" thing for "security reasons"....

Sure hope it's that simple!

Now....Anybody know how to Turn on html content in Vista? I gotta search around for that. Just thought I'd throw it out there incase somebody already knows.
Thanks! :-)

Oops... Windows7 must be similar to Vista re. video display!
How to install and enable... It may be that the info contained therein can help you if you are a Vista user and are interested in animated images. It seems Vista Ultimate allows (easy display of) animated BGs.

Link 1 and Link 2 provide more info re. displaying animated gifs in Vista or Win7. It seems MS is protecting users (Link 2) by not allowing HTML programming to function as in the past! So you have to thank the hackers for your dis-satisfaction with these newer OSs. It's kinda like being out in the woods all by yourself and having to use a Pay Parking Lot if you wish to feel safe while going for a stroll to take pictures... or *caedes not allowing potentially dangerous html commands in the comments! :o)
Link 1 puts you in touch with 3rd party software that enables displaying of (apparently) certain animated images. Sorry! Because I don't have Vista, I can't help more than by locating info that may aid you in your quest. :o)

I read thru all that Con. Appreciate ya lookin man. I'm not really interested in a "program that will make .gif's work on Vista".

What I really want to try and find out, is how, In Vista, you can "Turn ON html content". That's supposidely, all that has to be done.

Sure as the world there has to be a way??? I'll ask my friend to look at his Vista, if he even still has the piece of junk Loaded! :-)

It seems that ALL animated wallpaper will not work as BG when Windows Vista is present... This is what I found at Animated Wallpaper sites >
Please Note: Animated Wallpapers Are Not Compatible With Windows Vista At This Time.
The good news is they are saying At This Time.
I also have found sites that say ONLY Vista Ultimate can run some 3rd party software plus there own (as an update) to have 3rd party specific animated backgrounds. Pheww! and $20

Elsewhere I have read that MS did this to protect Windows users from hackers. Yet another example of the many being restricted/regulated because of the few!
