Ok, so I have read many, MANY threads on the net about Obama. Some love him, some hate him. Some claim he got there playing the race card, others laugh and say he is more than qualified-race played no part. Many are wooting it up for having a Black President. Others say his Kenyan roots are from a sperm donor of a father. I did not vote for Obama. I did not vote for McCain. I wrote in the person I felt would serve the position best. However, my take on the racism issue which is all over headlines is this...
From my blog...
"Many of us, of the "caucasian" persuasion, actually came from other countries, via Ellis Island, we did not own or have anything to do with slavery, and were also discriminated against for our heritage. Think about THAT. Think about "Dago", "Frog", "Hymie", "Wop", "Kike" or "Mick"--terms many caucasians have suffered due to their heritage. I am truly sorry for the abhorrent history of slavery. I know of a time in our not too distant past when people passed through Ellis Island, had their names changed so as to be LESS ethnic;. were put to work in sweat shops, and endured discrimination and ethnic slurs. They drudged on in hopes of one day attaining a piece of the "AMERICAN DREAM". What has been forgotten is that we are AMERICANS first and foremost!! It is in our vast racial diversity, in our many cultures, that the United States has become a mecca for others. This diversity should be embraced. Obama has a wonderfully diverse family background and I feel he needs to be loud and proud about it and lead by example--that it is ok to be an AMERICAN, not an Afro-American, Asian-American, Mexican-American, etc, those racial lines that are drawn divide us...we do not need to forget- nor should we forget- our ethnicity, family heritage, and culture, but let us also not forget that the people we are, in this country, the United States, are AMERICAN. I am proud to be an American, not an Italian/German/Irish/Polish American. Just an American with a great heritage."

I would love to hear your views, whichever side of the fence you fall on. Let this be a friendly discussion and/or debate, but please, no flaming anyone for their views.

PS- I mean no offense by using those derogatory terms, but rather am using them to point out how rampant discrimination truly is.

Oh, and as for how I feel politically...Obama has a long and hard road ahead. I really do hope he can get the job done...and feel personally, that Americans need to stop kicking each other, and instead need to start helping our "neighbors". I have read too many blogs where people speak of their hardships, and someone responds that it is that persons fault and to stop whining. Way to kick someone when they are down. Way to help your fellow American. I suspect the rest of the world is looking at the US and laughing. I think that we need to take a step back and look at what we can do at home, before trying to fix everyone else around the world. I wish Obama the best of luck, because with the shape of our economy, the man will need all the luck he can get! Maybe he CAN bring the Dems and Repubs to a happy middle area, and things can actually get done.

I'd love to hear input from non-American Cadesians.

I'm a non-American caedesian.
The 'rest of the world' is certainly looking at the US, but not laughing. The 8 years of Bush's politic brought wars and bankrupcy for the whole planet.
Actually, the 'rest of the world' is waiting for responsibility, multilateralism and openness.
That's why 80% of Europeans are pro-Obama.

Many years ago Garth Brooks released an awesome song, called We Shall Be Free...and I have read many threads on the web both for and against Obama...thought I'd post the lyrics, because they seem to fit the situation.

We Shall Be Free Lyrics
Artist(Band):Garth Brooks

This ain't comin from no prophet,
Just an ordinary man,
When I close my eyes I see,
The way this world shall be,
When we all walk hand in hand,

When the last child cries for a crust of bread,
When the last man dies for just words that he said,
When there's shelter over the poorest head,
We shall be free,

When the last thing we notice is the color of skin,
And the first thing we look for is the beauty within,
When the skies and the oceans are clean again,
Then we shall be free,

We shall be free,
We shall be free,
So stand straight,
Walk proud,
'Cause we shall be free,

When we're free to love anyone we choose,
When this worlds big enough for all different views,
When we're all free to worship from our own kind of pew,
Then we shall be free,

We shall be free,
We shall be free,
Have a little faith,
Hold out,
'Cause we shall be free,

And when money talks for the very last time,
And nobody walks a step behind,
When there's only one race and that's mankind,
Then we shall be free,

We shall be free,
Listen to what I'm saying to you,
We shall be free,
Cause every night and day I pray it's true,
Together,
Forever,
We shall be free,

We shall be free,
We shall be free,
Stand straight,
Have a little faith,
Walk proud,
Hold out,

We shall be free,
Listen to what I'm sayin' to you,
We shall be free,
Every night and day I pray it's true,
Together,
Forever,
We shall be free
