I can't seem to upload photos here.

Is anyone else having problems in uploading photos in caedes? Once again, it is taking anywhere from 6 to 45 Minutes for one photo upload! I've tried it at various times of day, and it's the same thing each time. I posted one finally, it took 14 minutes. Then I gave up after trying many times. The sizes I am posting are fine, everything seems ok, and they will post after that long, but not always. I've checked other things with my ISP but it doesn't seem to be them. If it continues, I guess I will not
be able to post at caedes anymore. I would hate to leave here, but what can I do? Anyone have any ideas? Thanx. Verena

Mmmh! My two last images were uploaded february 14th without problem. I approved 15 images today. It seems there is no problem with the uploading actually.
Could you test your bandwidth here, and give us the result?
PS. You have to wait a bit after the first page.

Hi Verena,
I see that you have successfully uploaded images on the 14th and 16th (today). To me that says that you are able to upload images... As Piere suggested, I think that you upload (outgoing) bandwidth may be the problem. Often, ISPs make the upload speeds much slower than download speeds.

I don't know anything about bandwidth. What is it? And what do I do? When I got in touch with Earthlink by phone, after many hours, they set my computer things back to a week or so ago, when things were ok. Even now, when I upload, yes I did it, but it took about 9 minutes for the first one, and about 20 for the second one. I just let it run the course. They said they would send me a CD to help my speed. Here where I live I cn only have dialup, DSL is really expensive to install and pay each month. Please explain about bandwidth to me. Thank you so much. Verena

Verena, here is a definition of bandwidth taken from TechTerms

"Bandwidth refers to how much data you can send through a network or modem connection. It is usually measured in bits per second, or "bps." You can think of bandwidth as a highway with cars travelling on it. The highway is the network connection and the cars are the data. The wider the highway, the more cars can travel on it at one time. Therefore more cars can get to their destinations faster. The same principle applies to computer data -- the more bandwidth, the more information that can be transferred within a given amount of time."

Which means if the line that you are given by your dial-up ISP is too narrow (bandwidth) to transfer an image to caedes.net ,the image cannot squeeze through and the server cuts off due to no information being received in a timely manner.
Dial-up can be difficult to use when uploading and as *caedes stated above, uploading is usually slower than downloading...meaning when you open an image on caedes.net, that is downloading

Hope this helps you.

*by clicking on ppigeon's link above, my bandwidth is 766.727 Kbps (95.841 KB/sec)

Verena: could you click on the link called "here" on my first post. Just wait some seconds and you'll receive a result.
Please, give us this result.
Mine was 297.676 KiloByte per second. WOW! ;-)

I also had a dialup connection for more than 3 years.I clicked on PPigeon's link above too and the result is the following: 9302.659 Kbps (1162.832 KB/sec).I hope things will be better for you though.

Ok, I did the test, and my bandwidth is: 4.037 KiloByte per second ...is that horribly low? or what?

Your bandwidth matches the bandwidth of a dialup connection,it is very low.

Yes. That's why you need a very long time to upload.
Caedes.net can't do anything for you.
I don't know the possibility for a dsl connection in your area :-/

Where I live it would cost me $400 to hook up DSL and it would cost about $150 per month. I don't have that kind of money. We live away from even a small city, altho it is only 3 miles away. There are also no cell towers here. Earthlink said they would send us a CD that would increase our speed a bit, so maybe that would help. The thing is tho, I had been able to upload photos here in about 3-5 minutes three weeks ago, and suddenly it is taking much longer. I wonder why it was fair three weeks ago, and so bad now. It never sent over that amount of time. A while ago I had that problem, but it was fixed and then it was ok. V

Verena it is possible that your bandwidth dropped lower 3 weeks ago than it was previously....dial-up is unpredictable and it depends on how many people in your area are online at the same time as well.

That seems to be the most logical explanation!

It could be right, the same can happen with DSL and ADSL,the bandwidth can drop and sometimes the problem comes from the ISP too.

No, what I was saying is that my bandwidth was higher three weeks ago, as my uploads were better. NOW they are lower. Oh well, I guess I can't do much, maybe once they send that CD that might help. Thanx to all. V

you could try local providers such as Comcast who are doing broadband offers for $19.99 a month at the moment.

I also have this problem. My speed is 2625 Kbps (328 kB/sec). I usually can't upload shots to Caedes. My data counter shows that almost nothing uploads, only some kBytes. What can be the problem? My laptop computer? What do you think?

I checked my counter while I was trying to upload again and it shows that for some seconds it starts uploading and after some seconds looks like no data is sent or very rarely only some little kBytes. Hope this means something for you who can help me. many thanks for any help.

Adsl. I have upload problems on other sites as well. It started about one month ago. Download is okay.

Try to talk to your ISP about this problem.

Broadband no good here. It is right now taking me 20-24 min to upload one photo here. I am going to downsize a bit and see if that helps. I cleaned my PC all the way 'round first, did the defrag, the disk cleanup, the ZoneAlarm, etc etc I'll keep trying whatever, but yes, Pierre, that's what the price is they want. And it is stealing for sure.I had Comcast and it wasn't much better as far as upload time. V
