Is PHILCUK a draconian tyrant?

I just posted my first image on the site, which was subsequently removed due to me using something with a brand name on it... I have seen many photos of items with brand names, many of which are good pieces of art. Is Phil a hater of new artists to the site? Possibly a bit snobbish? I wonder if it's because my photos are taken by me and aren't just rework of old space images? Discuss...if that's allowed.

as i pointed out to you in your many ranting PM's:

'the space gallery here is maintained as a public domain facility for the members - all the use of the NASA, Dryden & Kennedy Media Centre material is done so with their full consent and prior approval as is the work from the European Space Agency and Gendler Astro Photography on the understanding that it used for non commercial purposes.

occasionaly brand logos are permitted in images if they are incidental and not the focus of the image itself.

I hope this clarifies the situation for you and thanks for being so mature about it.'

the Code of Conduct is quite clear on what is and what isnt allowed - if you cannot be bothered to read it despite acknowledging that you have done so when you upload an image then it's hardly any of my concern is it?

so, to summarise, i recall in my PM to you when the image was removed that you should feel free to ask a moderator about their decisions - that doesnt mean throwing a hissy fit and being abusive - if you think other images on the site violate the code of conduct you are also free to use the complain fuction to bring it to a moderators attention so, in conclusion, no, i'm not a tyrant - i just ensure that members stick to the sites policies and have little or no patience with prima donnas and trolls - ok?

Personal attacks are uncalled for. If you have read the CoC you will know that trademarks in images are not allowed, unless they do not make out the main focus of the image or are not prominently visible.

CoC states:
"Unacceptable subject matter for images such as pornography, nudity, gratuitous wildlife copulation, registered trademarks, copyrighted material, screenshots of games, frames from a movie or television show, and pointless snapshots are not encouraged and may be rejected.

I had an image rejected some time ago for the same reason. I had a lenghty, calm, mature PRIVATE conversation with the Mod in question and came away with a better understanding of why my image was rejected.

Name calling and personal insults will not get your image approved, and serve no constructive purpose here. I would respectfully suggest that your energy is better served producing a new piece of artwork to share with all of us here, or finding a different site that will allow your current piece to be posted.

You also had to check a box prior to uploading your image that indicated your image was within the Code of Conduct.

It is very important to read all of the Code of Conduct.....and be familiar with it. That way, you can circumvent having your image rejected.

Hope this helps :~)

In answer to your question, " Is Phil a hater of new artists to the site?", the answer is a resounding "NO"...I've been here almost 5 years now and there's been the odd time for one reason or another I've had an image rejected...furthermore, new artists are posting all the time...you need to familiarize yourself with the COC and then adjust your own conduct to a more reasonable attitude.

"Is Phil a hater of new artists to the site?"
I say YES, if not how is it possible that he is present since 5 years soon (happy birthday!) and became an Aedile, than a Moderator?

What's to discuss?
IMO Phil does not suffer fools gladly which is most likely the reason you got so upset.

Nice thanks for someone who unselfishly gives of their time to promote and support others. Better learn to accept some rejection in life if you ever hope to learn and survive in this world buddy...Get over it!
