I have searched the threads and did not see this subject brought up before.
I purchased a new PC with Vista home premium 64 bit; quad-core processor, but have been unable to find anything specific on the net as to whether Apop will run on my new OS. According to Apop at Sourceforge, it relays the following:
Operating System : All 32-bit MS Windows (95/98/NT/2000/XP)
This from iexbeta; "Windows Vista RTM Software Compatibility List":
"Graphics/Design
Apophysis; scripts must be changed from "INSTALLPATH" to a new directory outside of the Program Files directory, issues with Program Compatibility Files, again, must direct to a directory outside of Program Files, that it will run all right."
Lori, according to Microsoft here, PS is compatible with the 64 bit Vista.
I read an earlier article on a different forum that had said the same thing.
Hope this is true :=)
If you have never had Vista before then do not forget to use it as administrator and if needed right click the .exe (the executable file) and choose use as admin.
Great news Lori! I have tried to speak with the Gods at Microsoft. They are all busy. So I tried a friend at HP, they are busy but made time to answer my questions. I also have a 64bit computer operated by Vista. Its been nothing short of a heart breaker since the day I got it. Some of my favorite old programs dont want to work. Rats! The gal at HP told me everyone is aware of the problems, but they feel the step towards 64 bit programing is a step towards the future. We need CHANGE! sounds like a political comment. She informed me that in April you will see more and more updates for programs to make them tasty to 64 bit computing. Hip Hip Ho ray! Until then, if your program works, well! goody for you. I run Photoshop and Apop with no problems. Make sure they are in the 32 bit directory, the 64 bit directory is for high class programing. If it dont, wait till Arpil and help will be on the way. That is of course if they dont need a bail out!
Oksyl, just an idea, did you try to run your old programs by using a compatibility mode? right click the executable file of your program then choose "properties" and "compatibility",you can choose a compatibility mode in the list.
Jerome - Gosh! Thanks for the tip. Ill try it! The programs I had are some old card games that I guess I really wont miss, but I like them. I could upgrade to newer ones, but the thought of some animated dealer making comments about my playing style does not thrill me. I cant punch them thru the screen! :)
I ran into a bit of trouble with installing Photoshop...had to get a patch for Adobe Acrobat first, and copy over some .dll files to the 32 bit directory.
As for Apophysis, I moved the scripts folder out of the default install path (away from the 32 bit directory), and change my monitor's DPI to something smaller in order to view the flame editor's tabs.
All seems to be working well so far. Thanks to everyone's input and suggestions!
Hey Jerry, I appreciate that info, and I look forward to any upcoming news in April :) And it just so happens that my new PC is an HP. If only I had a friend at HP that I could call when I have a question :P
It actually will work much better......you can run 2 threads when you render (much faster) and in your render window you can choose 32 or 64 bit.........you'll see it.....64 bit.....much faster. On the average......a render that took you 2hrs....if you have the dual quads and plenty of ram.........will take you 20 minutes. :)

Has anyone run Apop on Vista (32 or 64 bit)?
Any info would be most appreciated :)
