Wondering why

I did not expect Pearls of Wisdom to receive a high score and in that I was not dissappointed.
However I am surprised that no one who marked it with a low number ( it stands at 14) took the time to tell me why.
No pearls of wisdom from them - perhaps just a subtle message that I have indeed lost my marbles?

Hi Lyn

Interestingly enough, I'm here immediately after reading your "how I vote" guideline over on the other thread.

If I were to vote on "Pearls" I can't say I'd give it an extremely low score of 1 or 2, but I see a 3 or 4 as a distinct possibility. The colors, and overall graphic are pleasant, but they're also very nondescript. I don't see, or feel a focal point, or a center of attention. Adding to that, it's a bit dark.

"However I am surprised that no one who marked it with a low number ( it stands at 14) took the time to tell me why."

Indeed. And noone really, of those who commented, offered anything n the way of a constructive, or dissenting critique or comment. Perhaps start there. If you so choose, why not as some or all of those who have stopped by, if there's any additional thoughts they have about the image, which they might not feel at ease with sharing publicly.

Please, even if you don't visit my gallery, check out my "Faves".I've left them intact since day "1", and would like it if every image there got the attention they deserved.

Looking at it from an impersonal point of view - this is what I would have voted

1 - 3 Quality . . . . 1

1 - 3 Content . . . .1

1 - 2 'Wow' Factor (does it make me linger, does it make me think. Does it make me want to find out more about this artist) . . . .1

0 - 1 Desktop Value (suitability, not necessarily would I have it on mine) . . . . 1 ( I had it on my d/t for a day before uploading)

0 - 1 Personal Choice (probably should not be an issue but I think most would agree it usually is :) . .1

Giving a total of 4 - yes it would have made me think - think are those HER marbles ?

Does a design need a focal point ?

Maths is not my strong point (I am still searching for that as well as my marbles) but I think the voting must have been very low - I am not complaining about what voters thought of it - or about the comments I received - just wondering what its obvious faults and failures are - and now you have told me some - Thankyou!!

It was created as a result of trying to do something 'different' - inspired by another discussion but I believe this is proof that we should stick with what we are better at - not forgo experimentation - but understand our own limitations.

Eve...first off, I have not had this in the voting booth, yet nor have I commented on it.:)

In reviewing the image, the one thing that makes my eyes strain is looking for the 'pearls'. With the whitish orbs being out of focus, my eyes are still trying to pick them out since they appear so predominant in an otherwise dark pattern.

It almost feels as though a step was missed. :o)

There is nothing that commands my attention as my eyes rove over the image.

But please don't stop playing....it can be so much fun and so freeing :o)

In a sense that was what I was trying the achieve Mimi - pearls of wisdom are hard to find - for me at any rate :)

I just booted up my other computer with the smaller CRT screen and am amazed at the lack of detail that is apparent - now I see why the 'darkness' of the image has been noted. On my LCD screen the darker bits are far more filled with detail wheras on the other they are just black gaps. Maybe I need to darken my screen a bit so that I see what others see.

Thank you for your input GM :)

Back to camera clicks I think.

Welllll ... I can see that my words of giving an image some time for it's score to adjust ... was, er ... not heeded.

It rocketed to 26, as of this writing.

/\ Let that be a lesson to you. You been done told ... again.

(/\ And yes, I am teasing you, Lyn. No harm, nor foul intended. Laughs and giggles are in the ... uhm, eyes and ears of the beholder?
