Favorites File

This may be a dumb question, but I will ask it anyway since I do not know the answer. Many of the photo works in my Favorites file here I also have downloaded to use as revolving desktops for my computer. Is there a way to take them out of the favorites area in the profile area? Or is it okay for that file to be as big as you want it to be?

Hi Stan. It's fine for that file to be as big as you want it to be, but if you have an image that you would like to remove from your favorites, go to that image page and click on the favorites button (which will now have a minus sign on it for "take me away! Ha Ha! Ha Ha!).

Hmm... maybe I need to go take my meds....

Just a suggestion concerning Favorite Files.

Caedes stated in another discussion about overloads on the server. I feel that this File (Favorites) could be done away with altogether. I'm sure many members save Pics to their Favorite folder here on Caedes and also save that same image on their Hard Drives. I use the images saved on my hard drive and rarely if ever use the copy I've saved here on site. I guess it also serves to let others see (Favorite Folder) what your preference in images are ? I now have 40+ pages of Favorite Images. Some members have well over a 100 pages.

Not quite sure how much space or even how the server saves such data for each individual member. Only know it is taking up some type of space and program to operate it.

If you like an Image enough to be a Favorite you could just let that person know in the comment box that this image is considered a Favoite by you and save it to your hard drive.

As I Stated.......Just A Suggestion.

Along that same line that EJ mentions, maybe we should be limited to the number of images we keep in our own galleries. That would save some space too.

I agree EJ. I do keep photo files on my computer to use as rotating DT's. So the favorites area could be eliminated to save server space for sure. Great idea!

Actually, the favorites list for each member task up very little space on the server. All we save is a pointer from your username to each image. This takes an average of 50 bytes for each image. That means that we could save a total of 2 billion favorites with the free space that we have on the server. So my point is that you shouldn't worry about it. The list of images that you like is far more valuable than the small amount of disk space that it takes.

I'm relieved that Caedes says that... I love my Favourites gallery, and one reason I'm glad it's here is that it's a little extra exposure for archived images. Sometimes it really interests me to see what others have as favourites... you think you have a handle on the way someone thinks by what they say or upload, and then you go and look at their favourites and there are a few big surprises there! I find that extra perspective both heartening and refreshing, and I have added to my own wallpaper/favourites collection by looking at others. It's an underrated space, for sure. :-)

Very good then Sir Caedes. If it is not that much of a help then there is no need messing with things.
