I know the c-index scores are not being placed on our images but I thought they were still being updated in our Ceades Control.
I notice that images with 18 votes collected are still showing zero.
I am sure they used to be visible earlier than that in the past.
I looked at 3 of mine that were posted at different times with 18 votes, & all 3 of them still show the c-index, but my 2 latest don't. I admit those were the only 2 I checked though. I don't know how far back you looked with your own images Lyn, so I'm afraid I don't understand the thread.
Since 28/02/09 - 10 images posted (yes I know that is too many:) ) not one has been allocated a c-index. Of course some would not be - not enough votes but I would have thought the 16, 17, 18's would.
I don't mind one bit but I just wonder if they are not being updated any more.
All my previous images still have their c-index.
Yes - I am not sure what is happening but seem to remember someone 'up there' saying that in the meantime numbers would still be available to view within Caedes Control.
"The currently calculated values will still appear in your Control-Panel, but new images will not get the c-index calculated until the update script is fixed (or we decide to get rid of it)."
And this does not mean that time spent in the voting booth is futile.
No decisions have been made.
All this happened or is occurring presently as the load ... 'resource demands', for lack of a better term and/or descriptor ... on the site servers to update C-Indexes was too great (script that did so is being addressed) ... and caused many a lengthy delay in terms of visitors/members trying to connect, serving up imagery ... etc. ... so, the update script was disabled.
But Lyn, I don't understand, you've posted 10 images since Saturday & some of them would already have 16 votes ? Now there's the difference between photography & fractals !
Leave my Shiny Things alone Les.....I have to chase them every now and then myself. If I am taking my meds correctly, I don't have to chase them. But sometimes I......OH LOOK>>>>NEW SHINY THING!!!!!
*Remembers I forgot to take morning meds*
*Chases Shiny thing back to the campfire*
I'm not sure, but I suspect it is because of the random nature of the VB. Example - put 10 pieces of paper numbered one through ten into a bucket throughout the day and the next day pull them out randomly, until you've pulled each one out 15 times. Your chances of pulling number ten is equal to that of pulling number one, regardless of what time you put them in the bucket. It makes no difference what time you put the pieces of paper into the bucket if you are pulling them out randomly.
Made sense to me, but that doesn't mean much, I may just be rambling...
I suggested somewhere else that a final number of votes collected would maybe be a better cut off point for voting on each image than a specified time (Currently 1 month)
Because of the randomness - two images uploaded on the same day could have a very didfferent final number in 1 month - is that correct - or is there some rule that I dont understand about averages and other mysterious things.
I can't do numbers :)
Lyn, if you look here (caveat - I have no idea how timely this information is) you'll see that that the largest number of posts have 15 votes, and virtually all posts are between 14 and 18. I think you mentioned elsewhere that you had a post archived after just 8 votes. Using the graph as a guide that should be the exception and not the rule.
The difference in virtually all cases the difference between 14 votes and 18 votes should be minimal. If after 14 votes a post is sitting at a 60, even if the next 4 voters gave it a 90 it would only raise the OVERALL average to 64.
I would suspect most posts fall into the target range well before the 30 days ends. 20 posts would make the math easier, no doubt, and give a little bit more consistency...but realistically (granting that most posts have between 14 and 18) not much would change.
And, if I am wrong on how any of this works and one of the mods would care to correct me I'll happily stand aside.
More recent uploads, and I could stand to be corrected on this ... have a greater chance of being happened on in the voting booth.
And the 'why?' ... even more so now?
Given the interruptions of sorts of uploads/postings (numbers of, simply put) ... your images may be coming up now more frequently than before, as the pool of total number of images is not as great.
Wow, I just noticed the C Index scores are back! It actually feels kinda good to see them! Amazing how many feelings have surfaced. But I have to say thanx to mr.caedes himself, because I'm sure he's been working on all these things, along with probably many of the mods too. Verena
