On a different post someone wrote "I think the situation here has become a little tenous because no one seems to know how long we will be left wondering about the return of the index or not. For some it is rather important and for others, not so much. But, one way or the other, there is some tension afoot due to the not knowing."
Having decided that there was more than enough serious discussion (many good discussions, many of which I participated in myself) to last for a good long time, thought I throw a few logs into a pile and start a good old fashioned bonfire, and see if we can't get back to what makes this site so unique to begin with...the people. Welcoming old friends, meeting new friends, sharing some stories...along with roasting marshmallows, hot dogs and a few...um...libations may be in order as well.
Come one, come all...pull up a log and join us...tell us a bit about...whatever you want to tell us about.
~~Stokes the fire and adds some logs, opens a bag of marchmallows.~~
For example - anyone want to share a story about the very first post they ever made here to caedes?
This was my first one, and I put a thread into request for comment. Not only did some great, great people offer advice and support, but dear jackie was kind enough to download it, edit it, send it back to me with a lenghty e-mail on what she did and why. Her version is here.
Anyone else want to share something about...whatever?
Hiya Richie...Thin Lizzie will fit right in here...we've already got SHINY THINGS flying around...hope you'll give us a song later?...very cool manip, by the way.
Ok here comes a bucket of good ol' Oregon Dungeness Crab...this time it's to make Poppers with!! Yup, I got the fresh Jalapenos too and the Pepper Jack CHeese, and for the more wimpy peeps I brought cream cheese. So ya get out the seeds and white stuff in the pepper, in meantime, mix cheese with crab meat, stuff the peppers and lay those hunnies onto the grill!!Yummmmooohhhh!!
Next..course...since I'm a tee-totaller nowadays(is that how it's spelled?!) I brought delcious tea with fresh herbs, cloves, cinnamon, honey, and more! Nice n' hot, just what a person needs on a sorta cold beachy night.
As to my reason for joining caedes way back in '04(that long ago?!!) At those times I spent a lot of time in the good ol' chat rooms, but my gig was either the poetry rooms or the australian rooms...can't help it, that aussie accent is enough to turn anyone on...oooooooops, but I still love all of you from the UK!(after all you got a great accent too!!)
I met a guy who had a poetry site and he knew I was into photography, so every once in a while he would send me a photo from a certain wallpaper site, I loved them a lot..so I asked him where the site was, and it was caedes!! So I came for a looksee, joined up and never left!!
I adore the friends I've made here! And yes, they are actually more fun then the chatrooms were, altho I will always have a very fond spot for those good ol' times!!
And, hey I love sittin' around on the driftwood with all of you, hearing these stories, ready for more Poppers??(and I just might even be hiding some other goodies for those of you who are curious!!)
Too many SHINY THINGS flying around!!!!! Ok...trying to keep focused here.
Bringing in more logs for the fire.....I got the BBQ going and the beer's in the cooler. Pull up a log and sit a spell.
I remember when i first found this site...I wouldn't even look through the galleries....whatever was up on FA...(If I liked it) then I used it for my DT. then....Whoaaaa!!!! Look here!!! They got categories!!!!! Boy hog heaven by that time. Now I'm hooked and can't let go.
*Dodging SHINY THINGS flying through the air. Going to get more....LOOK SQUIRREL!!!!!*
And Richie won a bottle of Champagne for his karaoke kapers. That is too wild. I am still laughing. This party seems to be going great what with Opie and his shiny things. I hate to tell him that is just a jig and a spinner caught on the branch. Pass the bottle of funshine. :)
PATRICIA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LMAO.. I really can't remember that little episode *ohhhh look a shiny thing.. lol if I remember rightly that was Junebugs fault.. lol..
Here get your laughing gear around these croc and roo steaks!
I love eclectic dining, Jackie. Never have tried croc or roo but I'm up for it. I'll bring some woodchuck and squirrel stew from the Adirondacks. Got to have a few brews before tucking into to that! Been a while since Caedes had a campfire/picnic. Got a feeling this is going to be a wild one.
It was summer in the US. But this is a better time for all since were coming into the less extreme seasons. It's been a cold winter in upstate NY with tons of snow! Looking forward to sitting around the fire and hoisting a few.
How about some Boones Farm Apple Wine! Lol! Do any of you remember that one? We can all let loose and probably end up with one big hangover! Talk about anything and everything but the C word! :) =^..^=Sandi
I heard of a gathering of all those dear and soon to be dear and thought I'd walk by. But first, I took a walk into the back yard and cut a few boughs of cedar. Walking over to the fire *tosses them atop*. Downwind of the fire is lost in a smokey cloud. The smoke of burning cedar is said to attract the good spirits and eliminate negative energies.
Sounds like the good spirits have already arrived - the smoke will keep the rest at bay.
<snip> .nob
So - I've brought some long sticks for the fire and a knife for the whittlers - a point raised is best met by a marshmallow (however it's spelled). I like mine BURNT .. deskinned, then burnt again (repeat). The impatience of a child has never left me on such important subjects.
Kind wishes to you all, with Quiet at my side. *tosses another bough on the fire*

In fact, we loved our pizza so much, all the saliva on the uneaten rinds...mixed with the average everyday pollution content, caused cellular mutation to the point where when mixed with the yeast...paved way to a consiousness and in a short time intellegence...
From there, the rinds, with their capacity for independant thought...decided to form a hivelike society, and came together to become one compound entity, a master rind...with a taste for human flesh...and thus sprang the great Pizza Rind That Ate New York...
Nahh...this one's starting to smell like it!

(Momma has snuck in, shotgun tucked under arm. Looks around for any threats. Sees none. Puts another log on the fire. Says nothing. Starts to open a package of marshmallows, then unwraps several chocolate bars. Melts chocolate in a tin cup. Roasts marshmallows then dips them in hot choc. Doesn't want others to see her delicious snack or they may eat them all... the Brits have probably never tried this. If they spot the snack, Momma may have to use her shotgun. Will she get away with it?)
*sniffs the air, smells hot chocolate, follows her nose to the campfire*
Hey, Owd Bob, I'll try just a wee bit of the absinthe, and, Momma Pat, I'd love some of the marshmallow-chocolate ambrosia. I brought some seasoned driftwood in case Mr. Tick wants to throw another one on the fire, and I brought some special award-winning New England clam chowder fresh from the Lobster Claw Restaurant, one of the best on Cape Cod, and lobsters too for those who want to wade right in.

I know how you feel Bob. Those Shiny Things can be a pain in the bum. If I saw Momma Pat with a shotgun, I'd lose all my bodily functions too.
*Grabs Beer...Throws another log on the fire....helps Owd Bob up....OH MY>>>>PRETTY SHINY THINGS!!!...Drops Bob on head....Runs through woods chasing shiny things again*....Please don't shoot Momma...This spell will pass soon.
Lion pulls up a chair........no witches invited are there ?? :) Looks at owd Bob.......do ya have a extra pint ?? I brought some brats and marshmellows........I sure hope somebody else brought the hershey bars and graham crackers. As far as the business of the site..........ehhhh........the hell with that.....who cares......I've learned they're gonna do just as they please anyway. We got good friends here and that's what REALLY makes the site,,,,,,,lion gets up and does a little dance....others join in............NOW we're talkin'....................
Always remember - Follow the Yellow Brick Road, it will lead you to the Emerald City and OZ A very nice place to be. Trust me on this one, I live there. The Lion **** MY CAEDES GALLERY****Another Site I'm AT - MY DA HOME PAGE
*tentatively returns to party...takes a quick look around*
*spots Ron in contact with giant pizza that ate NYC...Owd Bob in what can only be described as a pitiful state, one moment playing possum, the next dancing with John, all the while emitting a series of disturbing sounds...Paul, hopelessly outnumbered, still chasing shiny things...Momma Pat bearing the telltale signs of chocolate and marshmellow all over her hands and face...trusty shotgun still aimed at Bob...*
*breathes huge sigh of relief*...no need to look any further...apparently all is going well!
I would love to have a tape of OB and John dancing the jitterbug on the yellow brick road! Lol! Need to have that recorded for a video link for caedes. I'll leave the Boones Farm behind and bring my dancing shoes and good humour. This song will take you back for one of most memorable moments in music history. Maybe the caedes campfire will be the second! :)
(What is this, Bob is creeping up on my marshmallows? Oh,I forgot, he's a Brit. Wonder what he calls them? God only knows.
Thinks he's going to get some of these delicious delicacies, does he? Picks up shotgun, cocks both barbells.....oh, the drama...)
Sorry but the government bought all the horses and gave them to the Amish. Go figure. They charged me a fee for selling them to them. I think they called it tax.
Kicks dirt and walks back to the campfire.
~~Grabs another bottle of Absinthe from my 'secret' stash..and hands it to Rich~~ ..
Well...half of it....could'nt resist a slurp or two!....
Bit stiff after dancing all that way up the yella brick road with John!.....geez...he don't half run with Banshee's after him!....
'Scaredy Nerdy'..nah nah!....
Momma You will never guess what we call Marshmallows in Brit-land!...'Mash mallows'!..we mash em up..soften them and put it on as cake toppins!....so there....now, you can take that shotgun and st.....!
~~Bloody hell' she's after me!....legs it like a banshee!....~~
be back next month!.....................>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
(Cocks shotgun. Aims at Bob's bum. Pulls trigger. Oh darn. What was all that white stuff that went flying? Why the dirty rat had his hip pockets full of my MARSHMELLOWS) Did somebody say something about horses? I love horses.
@ Pat and Bob...play nice kids...taking pot shots at Bob is NOT encouraged. Not, of course, that perhaps he didn't deserve it...but we have lions and dinos and cougars and all sorts of other skittish type animals.
@ Cindy - guess it would increase my commute time significantly wouldn't it ?
@ Jackie...sticks tounge out at JTC! Hangover ? Not me, no m'am just that brief interlude before I could get some Hair of the Dog...
@ Tick...Sorry to put my hoof in my mouth /\, glad it didn't pull the thread up lame.
Lots and lots of new people to meet here, wanders around the campfire to see if the Lion has room for a Tin Man next to him....
~~Strolls back to the campfire with MORE bottles of cherry brandy because you people have a might thirst for warmed brandy !! Just don't forgot the cider too !
I love chocolate but the S'mores are a bit too much sweetnees for me, so I'll just lay back in my lounger I brought along this time, since it looks like Jacqueline appropriated my chair... thanks Jackie ! And see if I can convince some kind soul do do up a marshmallow for me. *flutters eyelashes flirtatiously*
And pops up some tunes too.... a little mellow Bob Segar or maybe something else ? Or something along these lines, I actually have this as cell ring tone ! Well, the chorus anyway. ;-D
Okay.... in the spirit of good will & friendship & all that other.... noise...~~~Alright Jackie ! you don't have to push so hard...jeez~~ ahem ! Anyway.... in the spirit of things, & genorisity *death glare to someone I will not name* ... sorta, I also dug out this bag of home made fudge I thought some people might like.
There's a couple different flavors so you guys don't have to push now ! There's plain chocolate, chocolate with walnuts, white chocolate, chocolate peanut butter, and yes to our non American friends, Americans do have a peanut butter fixation.
Ummm, there's also dark chocolate with crushed chocolate mint cookies bakie in, & dark & milk chocolate fudge with peppermint candysd crushed in &oh I forgot, the peppermint & green mint candies are in the white fuge too for color & a little zing. There's also pecan fudge brownies.
Oh, me & Jackie get the first piece of every one, so other'n that, after I get them on a plate you all are good to go.
I've also got some chips & onion dip too. Looks around campfire & bodies strolling around & laying around. Good thing I decided to go to the store while I was at it ! I brought some more bowls, cups, paper plates, napkins etc.
Although, some nice semi sober human being getting the bags out of my car would be sooooo nice, *hint hint*. ;-)
I like nuts, I like nuts!...would love to try some of those pecan fudge brownies, Lauren...those cookies smell yummy too...hope you brought LOTS...no doubt a certain unnamed fellow Cannucklehead will make an appearance eventually...seems whenever there's a party and cookies or cake around he manages to find his way there...*listening to the sweet strains of Bob Segar, decides to pull up a log by the fire and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere...before that rowdy bunch starts acting up again*
HMMMM!!!! Smelling the chocalate from here....hey wait a minute.....Where is here? I have chased shiny things for too long......I guess I am far away from the camp. HELP!!!! It's too dark but I hear laughter! Bob must be showing off his speedos again.
Now I hear twigs breaking in the dark....Wait...that's not a twig. Feels like the cold end of a shotgun...WAIT MOMMA PAT!!!!! It's me...the shiny thing chaser!!!!
*glares @ Rich.. he knows why =PP so for that remark you now have to serve Lauren & me chocolates and drinks all day.. *snaps fingers.. holds glass out.. refill please.. i'll have a cowboy thanks
mmmmmmmm yummmm chocolate.. i'm in heaven.. good chocolate, good drinks and good friends...
"OI.. get outta my chair with those speedos!!!!!!! or.. or.. i'll get Momma Pat & Wor Lass onto ya"
Finally tries to sneak through the woods to find the campfire. Notices a shiny thing in the distance, sees a shotgun leaning against a tree with a marshmallow sticking out of the barrel, takes a few more steps and sees a speedo hanging from a tree limb, turns to run, bangs head against tree limb, sees birds flying around and passes out.
w00t !!! Ride em cowgirl !!! You might jus' want a little more cherry brandy though first hon.... *raises glass of brandy & cider in a nice tipsy toast*
Aaannnddd decides Gregg needs to come to & wonder about that speedo hanging in that tree.... as do we all....*shudders*... so Lauren slowly dumps some of her cherry brandy laced cider on Greg's face waking him. A serious waste of some really fine booze too.
;P
Hiya Gregg !!! What's shaking ?!!
Hey Jackie ! I found some of that fudge I saved for us ! ~~Woo~hoo!!~~
Hey Gregg, welcome to the party...you have nooooo idea what you've walked into here...grab yourself a good stiff drink...believe me, you'll be needing it!
Now, as for that JTC thing, does that have anything to do with that FIRST musical group Tick brought for us and what I 'almost' blurted out, Jacqueline?...*Uh oh, I may be pushing my luck...slaps hand across mouth and hangs on for dear life...motions for more brownies to otherwise keep mouth engaged*
LMAO... OK.. RICH.. A cowboy is Bailey's & butterscotch schnapps.. mmmmmm
Pat.. lmao.. no the JTC thing has nothing to do with music whatsoever.... here have a few more brownies.. and.. WHAT!!!!!! Bob's lost his speedoe's/budgie smugglers/dt's arrrgggg hope he's not running around in the woods.. never know what will happen with all those critters in there..
BEWARE GREGG if your trying to walk through that woods.. as the song goes "if you go down in woods today i'm sure you'll get a big surprise!!" and it isn't a Teddy Bear Picnic you'll find.. more like Owd Bob in all his glory.. lmao..
Well boys and girls, it's been LOTS of fun but it's time for me to hit the road for now...sure hope Bob and his speedo are re-united before Wor-Lass comes looking for him...*leaves behind
THIS song as a parting sentiment...singer particularly chosen in case Cookie-man shows up*...CHEERS!
LMAO.. aaaannnnddd.. nope thats not what JTC stands for either.. lol.. I'm a bit worried about Gregg though wonder what he's doing taking Bobs speedos.. lol
Well...I made it back to camp only to find Bob roaming around with some lid covering his privates, Gregg running around with used speedos (shivers at the thought), Momma Pat shooting a shotgun into the air, bottles of booze laying around everytwhere, faces covered in fudge and marshmallows, Ron on all fours with Lauren riding his back like the cowgirl she is, and you want to cal ME crazy for chasing shiny things.
*Pulls up another log by the fire, pours myself a drink and enjoys the show*
Pinched these HERE off some one's washing line!....Seems they belong to a certain Caedes member?....if so....they are welcome to them back....as soon as I retrieve my speedo long-johns! to cover my .. my errrr..Salty bits!....
~~Slugs a few more slurps to hide my embarrassment! .. glug glug!..~~
~~Contemplates how much work it will be just to get to a standing position and remain there~~
~~Contemplates another Baileys on the Rocks~~
Throws another log on the fire to get the flames a bit higher and figures Gregg will find his own way back.
~~Contemplates Jackie the Cleaner~~
~~Contemplates just how mad he really is at Lauren. Now that I'm rolling on the ground with laughter I REALLY won't be able to get up and help find Gregg!~~
~~Contemplates that Paul may be correct in assuming he is the sanest one here. There's worse than being obsessed with shiny things~~
~~Contemplates all the contemplating he's done in the last few sentences~~
Wakes up, tastes cherry brandy on lips, notices Lauren staring strangley at me, sees campfire in the distance, walks toward fire, grabs speedo hanging on tree limb, sneaks up behind Bob noticing he is wearing shorts with pumpkins all over them, hands Bob speedo, whispers in his ear "I think you should stick with the pumpkin shorts" Bob agrees, burps, hands me a drink, and says " Welcome to the campfire Gregg, glad you could finally make it".
The c-index has returned, I guess we could all go home now. Can someone besides Bob show me the way out? Don't want to be looking at his bum all the way home. Or we could just let him sleep on the bench.
*sneaks away from work to pop in briefly with cookies for a certain absentee Cannuck, realizing NOW Lauren brought fudge and brownies...musta' bin seeing things earlier...boy, did I EVER see things!...winks at Owd Bob*
Keep the party going, guys...a little bird told me there 'may' still be some late arrivals headed this way.
*hearing the word 'bird' Gregg grabs camera and takes another one of his perfect shots...as I look on green with envy*
*attempts to head out, slips on melted marshmellows scattered all over the place...one shoe flies off and lands in the fire*
*hobbles back to the office minus one shoe, green in the face, and decorated in marshmellows...it must be Friday the 13th.*
Removes memory card from camera, sells it to Bob, inserts new memory card, heard the word "bird" and "Swan" follows Sherree to the lake looking for birds, watches Sherree remove clothing and go skinny dipping in lake, takes more photos, Sherree sees me with camera, points camera at a piece of driftwood, snaps photo, returns home to post photo of driftwood or Sherree on Caedes. We will see............
I have been sat here waiting to be offfered some of that rare malt.
Perhaps I had better sort out something to exchange for it - what about a tripod ? - hardly used, as new ! :)
Anybody want a piece of birthday cake? It's Red Velvet..My favorite. No shiny things attached though.
Pouring myself my favorite bourbon and enjoy the company..now I'm back on meds, I should be.....OH LOOK>>>>>>>>PRESENTS!!!!
Heck they havn't kicked in yet.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, Paul!!!...hope your day and year ahead is filled with bright and shiny things...the kind you don't have to chase around...a toast to the 'man of the hour'..."I drink to your health when I'm with you, I drink to you when I'm alone, I drink to your health so often, I've just about ruined my own"...have a good one.
LMAO.. ok Bob lets get this campfire rockin' warm up those vocal cords.. lol bit worried about Bob's choice of song though especially the didgeridoo lol.. as for Rich's duet.. roflmao I can just see that one.. Lauren.. no kareoke is complete without sugar sugar.. and you have GOTTA have (great to sing when drunk) Link
It may not be necessary but you can't be too careful these days so just wanted to say that my post just above abit is in no way meant to cast dispersion upon any of a particular 'persuasion'...just a catchy tune with abit of a twist and to tease Bob...who's a pretty good sport, isn't he?...and...can't let St. Patrick's Day pass by without a little SOMETHING...Happy St. Paddy's Day !
Happy Saint Paddy's Day with some music from my favorite group. No I'm not Irish, but if this is close then I wish I was.
Celtic Thunder with Bird Without Wings and Danny Boy. I hope you enjoy.
And here's one of my favorites & then there's something a little more on the wild side. Crank it up !!! Happy St.Patty's Day !! Or what's left of it anyway ! ;-D
