Downloads?

So here's a "stupid" question that probably dosn't need a thread, but here it goes; When an image is "Downloaded", does this mean people are setting that image as their desktop? Or are they Saving the file onto their hard drive? Or could it be either? Since the c-index is down, this has become my new "go to" guide as to see how popular an image has become.
ok, I will shut up now..

Thanks

It has been my impression that 'download' simply meant that the image had been viewed full size.

I could well be wrong, it would not be the first time :)

I used to think that when a posting was downloaded, the number by download got larger, but I think I was wrong about that. Maybe check the info page in caedes? I'll do the same..V

Eve's right the download is the number of times the image has been viewed in full size

I could be wrong as well... but my interpretation was the views were full size views, and the downloads were the numbers being saved to the hard drive. Whether they use as desktop or not. I personally view most full size and often download them later. Or sometimes just view without d'loading, so I don't think that is a good enough judge of how well received the photo is.

My interpretation is that 'view' is someone coming and just reading your description and looking at the thumbnail. 'Download' is someone viewing a larger size, whether or not saved to hard disk?

This is apparently a common question, so I've added it to the FAQs page (check the bottom).

Wow, seems we're not all sure, but the man himself spoke. So I will do as instructed and check the FAQs page. Thanks everyone!

Yes, now that makes great sense. Which is what I figured to begin with. Thanks again..

"We record a download when a person clicks on the big thumbnail and views the image in one of the full sizes. We only record a view or download the first time a given user executes the action; multiple views or downloads by the same user do not increase the count for an image."

I am really pleased to have that part clarified :)
I often wondered if clicking on our own images full size had any bearing - good that it does not.

Thankyou :)
